Any solo of Tom Morello (RATM, & Audioslave) he can make the guitar sing in many ways. He does use pedals to get the distortion but he still has the skill to pull it off and make it sound great. Also my favorite solo would be the solo in Metallica's "One". I forget the original guys name (I'm not a huge fan) but everyone that has replaced him since he died just hasn't hit it right.

Bass guitar solo- Les Claypool (Primus) he has skill with the bass.
    Sorry, I'm old

Good to know that somone of Tom's status seeks "relief" from a sport he helped create. A sport now ruled by a single patent.

"Green Grass and High Tides"- Outlaws.

For amazing skill it would have to be Fleetwood Mac, the guy in that band can play any instrument with strings, and play it flawlessly. Mad finger picking action.

BUCKETHEAD is the sickest Guitar player alive today... his speed and accuracy of chords is sickening... in the good way... its almost not humanly possible to play as fast and well as he does.

I'm gonna call you on that one.

Yngwie Malmsteen owns that distinction....and by a long shot.

Take oh.......ANY of his solos for example.

                        I dunno..

I could say John Petrucci (sp) of Dream Theater tears it up. Or.. the Guitarist from Symphony X (Can't recall his name at the moment).

Then again, I really like Doug Martsch of Built to Spill for his guitar abilities.. not necessarily rippin solos.

John's a great player,I had rehearsal space with them back on L.I. before they broke.Had Helloween in the same building as well,'course no one's probably ever heard of them.

You'd really have to split the debate into best technical ability and best interpretation.

As far as ability,I'm going with Yngwie,Al DiMieola or possibly Micheal Angelo. You should hear any of them completely shread on an acoustic guitar.

Interpretation is going to be purely opinion and mine changes on that from day to day.

                          Jay.
