Also, people have to keep in mind WHY this was added to the Constitution. And sorry, it was not to allow people to say anything they want, any place they want, as loud as they want, as long as they want, etc.
keep in mind this is your perception of WHY it was added. also, if we kept in mind WHY certain amendments were added, other things would change, like the right to bear arms, which was created so we could combat the british. i agree wholeheartedly that we should look at the WHY, but let's not be hypocritical about it. (i'm not sure on your stance on gun ownership, but i'll just assume for argument's sake that you are against all gun control)

i'll respond with a quote of what i said lol.."if, however, the heckler is making it impossible for the politician to speak at all, the solution isn't to frigging tackle him. i agree that hecklers who do this should really be shut up somehow, but not like that."

i think most people act in their own self interest 9 times out of 10 (at least in our type of society: i.e. capitalist). and acting in self interest is not something i equate with being a good person.

If the heckler was breaking the law, you let the police handle it. You DO NOT ASSAULT AND BATTER SOMEONE! Al Franken should be charged with battery for attacking that protestor!

                    The Novak Story

This seems a little more reasoned. I don't think Novak should have initiated physical contact (if he did), but he didn't tackle someone from behind and then brag about it.
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - Tyger

And as for the free speech issue.

The heckler wasn't viotating anyone's free speech as defined in the constitution. Only the government is prohibited from constitutionally from infringing on free speech. I cannot deny you your constitutional right to free speech. Depending on where we are at the time I may be guilty of a misdemeanor for "shouting you down", but I am not violating a constitutional right.

And even if I was, tackeling me from behind isn't the right way to solve that problem.

(especially considering how dear the 2nd amendment is to me )
