    Brand: Canon
    Model: A10

I highly recommend this because you can get for about $230.

When choosing a camera one of the big things that the industry "tries" to sell you on is number of pixels. This has got WAY out of hand. If you are taking pictures to print onto paper THEN it is relevant, otherwise it is rarely useful.

If like me you want to host pictures, or email them then the last thing you want is an image that is so big that someone has to scroll around their screen to see it.

Most of the time I believe that 1024 wide is perfectly sufficient, so a GOOD 1.3 megapixel camera is all you need, and because of the 2.1 megapixel rave, the 1.3 models are much cheaper.

They can even be BETTER!!! Consider the comparision between the Canon A10 and the A20. The A10 that I have is a 1.3 and the A20 is a 2.1.

In tests people judge the A10 to have better quality. This makes sense. Many of the 2.1 megapixel cameras are capable of capturing pictures of a higher definition than the optics of the camera can provide.

Another fact about digital pictures is if you resize them smaller then you "sharpen" the image. Within a certain range this improves the quality, after that it makes it look like crap.

So, if you get take a LARGE 2.1 megapixel shot with the A20, you will find it slightly unsharp and TOO BIG! You'll probably want it smaller, so you'll shrink it down to say 1024 wide, and then voila, you have the exact image you would have got if you had used the 1.3 megapixel A10, except you've used much more memory to store it and spent much more money on the camera ;-)

So, my advice is to not rule out the 1.3 mega pixel cameras if you are just going to email and use pictures on your PC. Go to the display properties of your PC and see what your screen resolution is. Then look at the resolutions of the camera you are looking for. The LARGEST pictures on most cameras are bigger than your screen... Useless. They are too big for many uses.

The only thing that can frustrate me with the A10 is that it goes through bateries pretty quick. I have found though that if I use good batteries, when the camera says they are dead they still have LOTS of juice left for less strenuous tasks like walkie talkies, flash lights etc. I don't know the numbers, but eg. if the batteries start at 1.5 volts, by the time they get to 1.2 volts they no longer have the juice to power the camera. On other things though that use a battery until they are acutally DEAD the batteries still have a long way to go. Normal Ni-cad rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts FULL, so don't throw them away - save them for other tasks.

    Hope this helps
