    alienware for lots of dough

i was thinking about getting a nice laptop alongside the one my school provides (a crappy ibm r31). i know alienware is top-of-the-line, and being 15, i dont have any money. i know you can pay a set amount every month, but what i dont know is how much intrest they charge and all the other stuff. i can easily make 80 extra bucks a month, so i just dunno. someone please explain how i could pay for a 2500 dollar computer over the course of a few years, and all the intrest and stuff that goes with it.

    thanks
Yummy yummy yummy, I've got fun in my tummy.

its an alltogether bad idea i think so, by the time you pay off the monthly fee itll probably be obsolete. best is to save up for that time and buy it when you got the money

I would say if your going for the overpriced computers you might as well go for an apple, i personally don't like their desktops but their laptops are very appealing. They are durable and light. I hear the G5 powerbook is not far away and is quite powerful.
Apple also has a loan program, where you can choose how much you want and how long you want to pay it off.
      Apple Loan
Basically with any loan, the longer time period for paying it off you choose, the higher the end price would be.
      1500 loan:
      24 months $1680~ Monthly fee of $70
      36 months $1764~ Monthly fee of $49
      48 months $1872~ Monthly fee of $39
      60 months $1980~ Monthly fee of $33
In the end your better off not doing a loan deal, also keep in mind the higher the amount of the loan the higher the interest.

Just because it's the most expensive does NOT mean that it's top-of-the-line.

An alienware is just a cool looking case. That's about it. They don't have different "alienware" brand parts or anything. They are extremely overpriced, and if this is for school, I would definetly go for the powerbook, they are very nice computers. I just need my windows for gaming really, otherwise I like to stick with the mac.

i dont need it for school.. i have this ibm one already. i heard from like 20 people at school that alienware was the best. who knows. anyways, what would be a good laptop for a three years (3 more until college). id be using it for gaming mostly. i dont want to pay more than 80 bucks a month.

i am also a computer retard

my family was looking to purchase an alienware desktop, the extreme option one. it runs about 3,400$, but its filled with all this top of the line stuff (256MB video card, 240GB hard drive, 3.2ghz processor, 7.1 sound) does anyone think that this computer is as high end as they come? or can i get a better computer for a slightly more expensive price?

If you want to game I suggest getting a desktop, not a laptop. Desktops will run A LOT cheaper than a laptop and they are more customiseable (SP?) Don't waste your money on Alienware, although they are somewhat top of the line what your mostly paying for is hype. Just get a dell if you don't know what your doing, they'll only rip you off a little, and you wont be payng until your 50.

oh yeah, I build my own computers (yay for me)

For gaming you don't want a laptop.

Alienware does have some nice machines, but they are overpriced.

Macs are a completly different beast. Not what you want for gaming either. Don't get me wrong, I'm writing this post on a Powerbook, and I love em. just doesn't sound like a good option for you.

If you want a gaming machine, look at saving for a while and building your own. That's a much cheaper option, and will allow you to really learn the computer, inside and out.

the nice thing about alienware laptops (and why theyre so expensive) is because they are upgradable now. you can but better vidcards, or processors, or motherboards, anything you want for them in the future and upgrade them yourself, just like a desktop. this would be the last laptop youd buy. thats why they cost so much.

                        but my personal oppinion:

they dont perform as well as they should, go to www.voodoopc.com, they also have upgradable laptops, and are expensive, but they smoke alienwares stuff. voodoopc make much better desktops too. actually, they make the fastest production desktop out right now, but it costs a whopping 5000!

anyway, see if you can get a loan from your bank, see if your parents will cosign for you, might get better rates that way. good luck

Good way to waste a bunch of money. If you want it for gaming dont get a laptop. Simple as that. Buy a desktop for half the money that has better specs and will cost you half as much to upgrade in the future. You already have a laptop. Now you just need a kick a$$ gaming rig.

Alienware = The same machine you could assemble but 600 dollars more.

Go with the www.IBuyPower.com .. They are great (Pricewise)
Don't go with the AlienWare. Not only does the battery life suck (You'll be powered up most of the time.. but still..) but its friggin OVERPRICED. If you have the money, Alienware is the thing to get, there is no doubt of it. On a limited budget, there are much better options. I'm not sure if Ibuypower has laptops.. but I got my desktop from them, and I was very impressed with them.

you are paying for the name Alienware. you can easily get the same computer for 1/2 to 3/4 to price if you find someone to build one for you.
