actually with number portability you do own your cell phone number because you can take it from company to company, so the number is no longer owned by the cell companies

correct to a point, If you decide to change the cell phone number you don't have ownership of that number because it is not taken out of the market and the cell phone company dosen't buy it back from you and if you move out of that area code you can't take the number with you.Originally posted by Cliffio

For example, lets say ( and this is off the top of my head) your number is 824-796-4121. If you move out of the 824 area code then you no longer can have that number. That is the same as a home phone. If you move out of the area/city you can't keep the same number. I have had the same home phone number for 12 yrs but if i move out of the city i'm in, i can't keep this number. So no one OWNS a phone number, be it a cell or a home number.Last edited by Emily; 02-16-2004, 05:46 PM.ummmmmmmmmmmmmComment

i believe he is saying cell phone and select companies that provide LAN service. but for the most part, you would be correct most companies do not allow number portability at this time

The guy who ends up buying it is probably just going to set up a recording as an ad for something he wants to promote, thus taking all the fun out of calling it.

Very odd. Last night (16th) the auction hit over $200,000. Today (17th), the bids have been retracted and the auction is down to $100,000. There's a pre-approve process required to bid now. Must suck for the seller, knowing that yesterday you were getting a quarter of a million, and this morning, it's only 100G.
I'm going to LMAO when the buyer forgets to pay their phone bill and the number gets recirculated.

I didn't think about. But the point is you don't own a phone number, the phone company owns the number. The phone number is the only one that can take the number out of circulation (sp). Now you can request a certain number when you set up/change your account, but if someone already has the number you can't get.Originally posted by Thordic
Untrue. My friend moved from New Jersey to Florida, and somehow managed to keep her number. Area code and all.
I don't see how this guy is going to be able to sell something that is not his to begin with.ummmmmmmmmmmmmComment
