I tried to insure a V12 Jaguar XJS when I was 18 with full coverage, the rate I was quoted was $6,000 per year. No typo, the insurance would have been higher than the payments. I bougth a convertible Corvette, insured it as an antique, and paid $400 a year instead."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr SuessComment

Out of curiosity, where'd you come across all that spare change? Rude, perhaps, but I'm curiousOriginally posted by Lohman446

My insurance, which is standard No-Fault (Really dumb Michigan law... not sure where else it is...) and collision was 1200 a year on my 96 Eagle Vision...
after I got a 3 point ticket 3 years ago (yay! points go away in a month and a half) my rate went to 1800 a year...
but, this is in the detroit area, where rates are high... and I was 19 when i got the ticket.
on my first car my rate went DOWN after i got rear-ended... that was wierd.

lol im 16 just got my license and we only pay 700 a year and when i get my own car (which as a joke i asked what it would be if i got an 8 cyc. 66 mustang fastback) they would up it to only 775 a year, then again i took driving school, my mom is a retired cop, my dad is a cop, on honor roll and live in rhode island (which i have no idea what that is on your scale for state to state). and its full coverage if im not mistaken. i would think my brothers insurance would be through the roof from driving into the wall on the side of our drive way once and driving into my grandmas car with her old car trying to avoid the wall another time...

so ya.....noone gets screwed like NY on car insurance...besides massachusetts. if i were to get anything with a v8 engine in it (on my parents' insurance plan, mind you), my insurance would spike to at least 3000$/year. again...no accidents, no tickets, no nothing. when you hit 24 years of age, insurance rates drop about 30% or something like that, but NEVER before then. before i went to college (when i was declared a fulltime driver), my insurance was 1400 every six months ON MY PARENTS' PLAN! and there's 3 other vehicles on the plan. if i were to get my OWN plan, it would've been 2000 every six months. and this is, again, with a 4 banger 89 dodge dynasty....:/. so again, life sucks for >=16 and <24 year old males in NY. and about the male/female thing, my friend is a girl, same insurance plan, half the cost. not to mention she has a ticket AND an accident AND a MUCH more powerful car. i hate my life

Get rid of the dynasty and get a new car, I get $300 knocked off for a driver airbag, and $300 for ABS (which I don't have but the insurance company says I do, so i'm not going to argue).Comment
