I have not seen it, but I want to as I think it will be a good movie. I am not at all interested in religion of any kind.
However, I thought Roger Eberts comments on the anti-semetic backlash this film has been getting was interesting.

"The libel that the Jews "killed Christ" involves a willful misreading of testament and teaching: Jesus was made man and came to Earth in order to suffer and die in reparation for our sins. No race, no man, no priest, no governor, no executioner killed Jesus; he died by God's will to fulfill his purpose, and with our sins we all killed him."

Great quote scarpa...and right on the money. I never did understand "Christians" (and I use that term loosely) in the past that were so hateful towards Jews. Hypocritical if you ask me...since we're ALL guilty of putting Him there.

4 hours and counting. I'm both looking forward to seeing it, and dreading it at the same time.

I definately want to see it, unfortunately our local theater said they were sold out of all showings for the first two weeks and had been since before it came out.

The actor who portayed Jesus, didn't make it out very well.

While getting whipped, the whipper missed the metal backplate, and tore a 14 inch gash into his back.

Ohh and he was struck by lighting during one of the scenes as well.

I will most likely head out to see this movie.

Hopefully the story will be told in a powerfull enough way to make it an excellent movie for the non-believers. I have been burned out of my $7 so many times at the movies I rarely go anymore.

Anyone have any opinions on the film from that standpoint?

one of my teachers is a jesuit in training, (my school is run by jesuits basically...www.bchigh.edu) and he gave us a huge talk about it in class today. he explained how he could not wait to see this movie, and at the same time was extremely anxious about it because a huge part of what he prays about was to be like jesus, which involves praying to see what it was like to be on the cross, to be in that crowd, to see it from ppl's eyes and this movie will be a very real, very big experience for him i think, and for alot of other people as well, because it has that ability to truly show the suffering jesus went through for US, all of us, just because he loves us so much.

                            by the way...im roman catholic
