    Societal Garbage

    A couple of social deficiencies...

A high school gym teacher telling the class to split up into teams. Never let the kids pick the teams because the fat kid never gets chosen. A pair of unused gym sneakers can be a very detrimental and hurtful pain in their life.

A Chinese man gets the job over the Caucasian man because he is needed to fit the quota. Although the white man is more qualified for the job, the Chinese man gets the job anyway. This is due to Affirmitave Action. The best man for the job should be hired, no matter the race nor ethnic backround.

Beating people because of their sexual orientation is wrong. Matthew Shepard did not have to die because of the fact that he was gay. The recent allowance of gays and lesbians into the military is a step forward, but it is a late step. Our government is slow to realize that we are all human.

The common theme with all these examples of social deficiency is the presence of ignorance. Ignorance can be a very dangerous weapon because it is fueled by an irreversable and stubborn attitude. Whether its paintball, underage drinking, gun control, or even sports players' payrolls, we need to understand what we are saying...before we say it. We need to see both sides of the argument before we argue. There will always be ignorance, but if we can teach people the truth then maybe some good will be done. Paintball will never progress as a sport, unless we teach people the truth.
"Men think they think upon great politcal questions, and they do; but they think with their party, not independently; they read its literature, but not that of the other side; they arrive at convictions, but they are drawn from a partial view of the matter in hand and are of no particular value. They swarm with their party, they feel with their party, they are happy in their party's approval; and where the party leads they will follow, whether for right and honor, or through blood and dirt and a mush of mutilated morals."

I could give a good argument about gays in the military, but this belongs in Friendly Corner...

Army, why does this belong in the Friendly Corner? Does this sound friendly to you? Does this sound like an off topic? I'm confused. You have obviously missed the whole point of it by moving it to this forum...

well it didn't have anything to do with paintball in general. That stuff usually goes in the friendly.

Point 1: kids will be kids, which isn't always good, and somebody will get hurt.

Point 2: 100% agreement. I tried to apply for a county police position but was told "I'm sorry, we're not hiring white males at this time". Gee, sorry I want the job because it's want I want(ed) to do and not just because it's a job...

Point 3: There are enough people out there that really just deserve a good beating, but not because of their race, sexual orientation, etc., but just because they deserve it. Oddly enough, most are politicians!

Point 4: my mom never taught me not to point.

            wrong...

wyn, you're wrong...this has everything to do with paintball. Paintball is part of our society, and it is often wrongfully downed by ignorant people.

As for this post being moved, all I can say is that the hand of authority has been mistakenly slapped down. This is NOT an off topic, and if you can't read in between the lines then you shouldn't be moving things.

Number 2 and Number 1 Contradict eachother.

One you're saying that we should give everyone a chance, even the fat kid that sucks at X sport.

Next you're saying that the best person should be give a job.

Odveously, the Fat kid isn't going to be as fast or as athletic as another. He Isn't the best person for the "job".

Just trying to make a point. I agree with you on #2, but not on #1. People need to learn to deal with their own problems. If/when they get out in the REAL WORLD the'll have to find out the hard way, that the world isn't fair. It's that simple.

              Deal with it.

#3 I think you're right. Nothing is an excuse for killing someone (with the exception of war, and the likes). Now, I'm not saying that I support Homosexuality, I don't. But Kiling someone for it makes YOU that much worse.

As far as Ignorance goes, Here's what I like to say, "A person is smart, People are stupid." Personally, I feel that the average american is an Idiot. There's not much you can do about it. People are people, and people are dumb.

Now, all you gotta do is learn to manipulate them, and that's how you become a good politician

It just seemed like a general OT type post to me. I'm not saying it can't be discussed as it may apply to paintball, but if it had something thrown in about, say misrepresentation of paintball by the media, army might have thought about it before moving it.

Joey, # 1 and # 2 do not contradict each other. Being fat has nothing to do with affirmitave action. AA has to do with race and ethnic backround, not weight. I do agree with you about having to deal with your own problems, but does that justify torturing someone throughout high school? And yes, I mean torturing. Standing in front of a coed class of 100 or more people while everyone rushes to their friends, leaving you staring at your shoelaces and wishing you weren't fat is torture. And no, I'm not fat.

Yes, the world is unfair...but we make it unfair. We create our own problems. Abolishing Affirmative Action, hiring a new gym teacher, and treating a human being with respect regardless of their sexual orientation would make this world a little fairer...

                      1. They need to learn life isn't fair, but not necessarily at that age. If you really want to see a screwed up adult, mess him up as a kid. Too many times, the Jeffrey Dahmers of the world can link their adult problems to problems they had as kids. My daughter is almost 4 and is very upset that another kid in preschool called her "stupid", which as her parent I'd disagree with! She actually is very bright! I know life sucks, but she doesn't need to know it until she's older. A kid's life should involve education to become a better person, not education to know how to hurt. Now I guess I have to teach her to kick him in the nads!

                      2. What part of Canada do you live in?

Ok, I see where you're going with the affermative action stuff, but what I was saying about the fat kid, is this:

#2, you were saying that you should hire the person who is best for the job.

#1 you'r saying that they should somehow arrange for the fat kid to be part of a, say basketall, team that doesn't want him on there. He's not the best person for that position, and John Doe Junior, who is in fact a good basketball player, will feel "left-out"

Like joker said, "kids will be kids, which isn't always good, and somebody will get hurt. "

Now, i'm not saying that Elementary age kid should have to figure out their own problems, they can't. They're just too young for that.

I think, by high-school you should be able to figure that kind of stuff out by yourself.

Joker, you said that if you want to see a messed up adult, mess him up as a kid, right? Well, More importantly than what happens at school, What happens at home will more likely influence them through life.

In general, Morals have gone downhill. That's what's the cause of most problems these days.

Webmaster, this is not an off topic. Its about the sport of paintball and the ignorant patterns of our society. Hence, it does not belong in this forum. Just because you have authority doesn't mean you have to exercise it. And when you do exercise it, please do correctly. And yes, I'm trying to keep this civil, its just hard to keep a cool head when injustice has been done. No matter the amplitude of injustice(this one being small), its still wrong.

Why would you delete this thread? Just because I stirred up a little controversial conversation doesn't mean you have to react with inappropiate authority.

That's definatly not "inappropriate authority". He's just warning us not to let this thread get out of hand.

This DOES belong here, because it deals with patterns of society.

I don't see the word "Paintball" more than once or twice here, and it's not even in the right context.

Think about how many people GENUINELY believe that autocockers shoot farther than other guns? It's a huge, although decreasing, percentage of paintball players.

Not only is the average american stupid, but also apethetic. I mean, who REALLY cares what's going on in Afganistan right now? They'd rather look at the funny comic with the guy with a turban hanging fron a noose.
