Yeah that will work.....with a plastic fork

To keep things sensibly on topic, flying is what you want to be scared about and no amount of do this or do that will take it out of your mind. The only way would be to turn up so damned tired that as soon as you get into your seat you fall asleep, everything else will not help as you will still be scared/worried. The best way to attempt conquer your fears is to really face them by getting a window seat and watch the take off/landing.
I don't have any worries about flying and choose a window seat as that way i can rest my head on the side (rather than whoever is next to me) and sleep but then the majority of my flights are transatlantic so not quick hops like the flight in question.
The first time I flew was in a helicopter so when I got to a plane it was nowhere near as bad, I sat in the front of the helicopter with the glass floor and I was fine until the pilot decided to hover and then it was really a case of "what the hell is keeping us up here?".

Commericial planes rarely crash because of a malfunction, like a wing falling off or something. Pilot error is usually the culprit. Oh yeah, and they crash a lot on take off, and on landing... if they do crash. This is kinda why you buckle your seat belt during take off and landing. So when you're in the air you'll be ok, unless there are terrorists. And then there are like, these things called microbursts. What it does is, when the plane gets close the the ground there is a microburst of air. The plane stalls, loses control, all near the ground so that's not good. If you've seen videos of small planes wobbling violently and nearly flipping over before landing or right after take off... that's a microburst. Oh yeah, and if you do die it will probably be because of smoke inhalation and not an actual crash so... stay low to the ground because that's where the last of the air is. Some times air traffic controller mess up, and you end up landing on a taxi-ing plane so watch out for that. Remember the Aloha 737 flight? The top of the plane ripped off, and a stewardess got sucked out I think. So keep that belt on.

Relax! You'll be fine! Just don't choke on your peanuts.

The most dangerous place to sit is over the wings. If you survive the crash you'll likely burn to death.

              The "intro" flight is $300...

                  Flying

Hey the first time I flew I went to Australia from England that is a 18 hours flight I wasnt at all scared. It was just the noise the plane made that scared me. After I had a vodka I felt fine. I just sat and read and done colouring with my daughter. Just keep your self occupied.

A bit late but to all those who get to experience it later it is fun. The Wierdest sensation is the climb out from John Wayne Airport(orage county) the noise abatment secton of the fligh feels like you are floating. You start your take off roll and the engines are comingup to full powoer. you take off at full power and just climb then 3 minutes in you hear the engines throttel back and you just kind of float for a few minutes. then the engines trhottle back up and you are on your way. It is spooky the first time you do it. It is cool the rest of the time...(used to fly back and fourth alot)

                      Hey Gang,
Thanks for all of the easing comments. They made me feel at ease about the situation. Except yours Q, you'll get yours when/if I get to meet you...

I can sum up my first flying experience in one sentence: "If it comes down to a choice of driving ro flying, I'm hopping a plane!" It really was fun. Little boring in the middle, then fun again! Seeing SoCal fromt he air at night was REALLY cool, blotch of light here, cluster there. I was amazed at the fact that I could distinguish the water from the land at midnight. The light on the ground made that possible.

Then coming into Atlanta at sunrise rocked. I think I could see my house? Who knows. It was really cool, and I can't wait until I get to do it again!

                      Thanks Again ~ Dave

After travelling for a living for the last several years, there aren't too many things that take my breath away. However, if you ever get the pleasure, there is little that compares to the NYC skyline at night. It's especially enjoyable if you go into LaGuardia, where you can see the Statue of Liberty up close and personal with the ground lights on approach for landing.

Landing at San Fransico is something else. First time I flew into there I was wondering where the land was. It was nothing but water til 5 seconds before the plane touched down. I was scared out of my mind but yet I acted all cool. Oh and peanuts aren't served on many flights anymore. Just pretzels or a chex mix type deal. My favorite meal was on Delta. They gave me a little bag with Sandwiches and stuff as I boarded the plane. Was quite tasty. Even included a bottle of water. One word of advice though. Don't fly Southwest across country if your hungry or really like your pretzels.
                            Sorry, I'm old

Glad you made it back home safely! Too bad we didn't get the chance to meet up. I was looking around for a guy with an Xmag or an SFL but couldn't find anyone.

I hope you had fun during your visit. However, I can't say hanging out in Pomona is all that exciting when you're looking for a night life...hehe!

                                Anyway, maybe next time!
