And that's why he should rot in a cell and get raped daily rather than get strapped on a gurney and get a shot in the arm.

Have you been reading, you spend more on an execution then on leaving someone in jail for the rest of there life.

Ive got a great idea, lets take people who are serving life, or going to be executed and have a competition in which the winner goes free. We put them in a room about 50 at a time, and the last one left alive wins. Then all those winners fight each other, and the last one left alive gets to go.
Only rules are they cannot bring weapons, use of dead bodies or dismembered limbs is permitted however.

Execution costs a ton of money due to the appeals process. But that is getting better. The main problem is we were very cautious about executing a innocent person, but now that risk is lessened with the advent of DNA and that sort of evidence. I suspect that in another generation or two of DNA evidence we'll see executions that happen just weeks after a conviction.
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - Tyger

I wrote a satirical essay on that this past fall.

                    ...and it solves our problems
                    By Noah Borthen

It has become very clear and apparent that in the last 20 years, the number of inmates incarcerated in the American prison system is going to exceed the carry capacity of the prisons that confine them. More specifically, prisoners with life long sentences are crowding the cells, wasting taxpayers money, and for most intents and purposes, depleting resources that could be better utilized by Americans at large. Extremists claim sentences are too harsh. Life sentences are handed out by the dozen they say. Men and women are wasting their productive lives behind bars over crimes they don't even remember, much less feel remorse for, they say.

The real answer to a problem like this can actually be found in the problem itself.Criminals who are serving life sentences are generally there for violent crimes. Violent people really serve no purpose in society, at least in todays society. However, the ancient Romans found a resourceful use for them. Instead of putting them in cells to rot their useless lives away, the Roman government placed these men and women into the Colliseum to fight to the death. In a battle royale of criminals and prisoners of war, the Romans found entertainment. Today, like yesteryear, we can find entertainment in the natural tendencies of our less evolved fellow men and women.

I propose that all men and women who are convicted of crimes carrying minimum sentences of 20 years or more, be instead placed in an arena in a large stadium. Once 45 men and women are in this arena, they are allowed to cut, burn, shoot, and mutilate every opponent they wish. The last man or woman standing is given 2 days to heal and rest. Following that, another 44 men and women are entered once again into the arena, and the winner of the last skirmish is entered. The layout of the arena is like that of a junk yard. Heaping piles of rusty metal and scrap not only provide temporary cover for the less battle-savage competitors, and weapons for those for proficient in the art of murder, but also as cold coffins for the losers. Randomly strewn about the arena would be non-projectile
weapons such as axes, chainsaws, crowbars, and flame throwers. Safety is afterall, number one.

This not only eliminated 95% of the criminals, it also provides entertainment for innocent Americans. In today's "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" world, bloodsport is a staple of entertainment. Regularly, programs where men and women beat each other up get higher ratings than their less violent competitors. Video games about rape, murder, and street racing outsell games about puppies and childrens cartoons. And the most popular musicians are usually popular because they have been charged with numerous crimes, curse Gods name like Sailors, or beat their girlfriend. American has been bred for a contest like this. It is in Americas blood to see blood.

Some may argue the moral ramifications of making criminals kill each other in cold blood. I answer with the simple question of "What else can we do?" It is too late for afterschool specials to save these men and women. They are too far down the road of crime for any effort to save them to matter. The only thing they can do now is entertain us with their crazy murderous antics. Others will cry out about the innocent men and women who may be killed. They say we may loose valuable individuals to the inflexibility of the court system. The court system is infallible and thus, no one of any value will be placed in danger. There simply is not a moral problem with making criminals, people who don't care who lives and dies anyway, kill each other.

Finally comes another good point. As the number of dead rises, the popularity will rise too. Quickly, Battledome OZ as it will be called, will become a sensation. Financially, the prison system will be self sufficient. Instead of having ticket sales feed the massive paychecks of proffessional athletes, the money will go into building bigger and better stadiums, as well as improving the prisons for the less-than-20 year criminals. Futhermore, as the popularity rises, so will the body count. As another penny saver, instead of burying the dead, they will be used as a renuable energy source to power our nations schools. Not only will our children
be provided with cheap, clean electricity, but they will also see first hand why crime doesn't pay.

My modest proposal of solving the overcrowded prison problem in America is simply that, a modest proposal. I do not expect it to be followed strictly. Infact, it is very flawed. I am not very well learned on the energy contained within a dead, or mostly dead body, nor do I have an extensive knowledge of non-projectile weapons, thus I do believe that some changes could be made in both of these areas. However, for most intents and purposes, my proposal is a well designed plan to solve a pressing problem in America, as well as cure a few
others. There simply is no other way it can be done.
                    BLOODY MURDER!

I don't think the energy thing would be efficant enough, we would just have to live with mass graves. And there should definatly be a highly paid person (me) who decides wether or not you get to fight.

in Texas, a death sentance is automatically appealed. i say after that appeal is done the execution is set for 11:30 pm the following monday. the condemed has until that time to get the supreme court to stay the execution because they have agreed to hear his case. if not, see you later pal.

the death sentence has become less of a deterant to crime because criminals know even if they get death, it will be decades until its actually applied. if people knew that within weeks of the sentance they would be pushing up daisys it might have a tad more punch.

ps, i also wouldnt mind adding rape and child molestion to the list of death penalty crimes. i cant imagine what we need with those types of people. i would rather live next door to a murderer than a rapist/child molester.

Rape it depends on the type of rape, if your 18 and you have sex with a 17 year old I don't think you deserve death for that one. This would definatly have to be taken on a case to case basis (optimally with me being the highly paid decider). Child molestation, that one is questionable wether they should all die or not, although atleast large portion of them should.
