"More than 60 thought the Battle of Helms Deep in the Lord of the Rings trilogy actually took place."

and to emphasize; HAH! -
You Brits are bloody lovely!
I got quite a chuckle from that. Were the Orcs at Helms Deep actually the French? I guess that would explain why though they vastly outnumbered the Humans, they still surrendered!

I think you will find that a great many people were taking the piss
afterall on the last cenus we had the number of people that put for Religion----Jedi Knight was extremely high
The thrust of the article was the frequency that Hollywood (america) bends the truth for the sake of artisic licence. when the film (we call them that, not movie) Pearl Harbor (why can't you spell thing correctly but then it is in an American state so allowed I suppose
) was released even americans were saying how much it twisted what happened.
U571 was laughable and the end credit was woefully too late and not enough. Because of this twisting by Hollywood is it any surprise that kids are unsure of what happened and when. I know a guy who I ref with when I travel over to the states that collects european books on WWII as he finds that the american based publications miss whole conflicts or fail to acknowledge why american troops were able to succeed in certain areas due to their allies help elsewhere. That isn't to say the british aren't above changing something to suit their own ends but not where history is concerned

You know, I can understand how some people(although in this case it would be MOST of the people in the poll) could think maybe miss out on the fact that there was a person called Hitler or Genghis Khan existed.....comeon, use your imagination, there are alot of sheltered people. But what totally got me was how someone who had even the least amount of logic could have missed:
"War of the Worlds , Martian invasion - 6 per cent"-well there's our proof that life elsewhere in the universe exists
"Planet of the Apes , the apes rule Earth - 1 per cent"-when the hell was this?
But this is the best one, "Battlestar Galactica , the defeat of humanity by cyborgs - 1 per cent"-just a guess, JUST A SMALL ONE, but if someone asked you about the event that involved the "defeat of humanity" by (insert anything here, example: funnel cakes), wouldn't you ask yourself how could you be alive right now?"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death"-Albert EinsteinComment

Were those people actually serious when they answered some of those questions?
Battle of Endor , The Return of the Jedi - 2 per cent
Come on they had to be at least half way joking....right?
People are dumb, are they really this dumb?
You would probably find similar results if you were to test 2k random people here in the U.S.Comment

Yeah...we on this side of the pond take polls too seriously. Probably people thinking, "What stupid questions...think I'll mess with them a bit..."Originally posted by Bolter

of course its a joke survey, whether the survey takers knew it or not. Brits are'nt stupid, most of them are just very, very sarcastic. I always heard brits are stodgy but the ones I go to school with, I never know when their NOT joking about something. They're funny people in their own weird way.
Course we gotta be honest, before Saving Private Ryan came out, the average american on the street probably would'nt know what "D-day" was or what war the invasion of Normandy took place in. I've seen Leno interview people who did'nt know what war Pearl Harbor got us into or when WW1 even happened...Comment
