64 bit processors are kinda useless right now, there is no support for 64 bit. There is a 64 bit version of XP, but its still kinda worthless. It does run faster then a 32 bit, thats all i really know.

currently, the only computer that can support 64 bit is a mac g5. other than that all home computers have 32 bit processors, IE the current fastest processor is the pentium 4 3.06 Ghz. Athalon 64 bit processor is like 8 Ghz. thats hella fast.

        Erm.

There are Opteron 64 bit (AMD)'s that run just fine in 64 bit OS's, such as FreeBSD (the 64 bit version) etc.

So, no, a MAC is not the only 64 bit natively running machine. (Mind you, OSX was built off FreeBSD).

ah, crap i haven got my PCGAMER magazine in a month, im way behind (lol)so, anyways, ill try to clear up some confusion:

*Previously all computers used a 32 bit processors

*bits are the BUS size, or the amount of information that it can process at a time.

*64 bit can process information 2x as fast as 32 it procesors.

                  * The faster and more information a processor can process, the faster and more intense and sharp the graphics can be alowed to go.

                  * if you play a game and the graphics are choppy, either your processor cant process as fast as it needs to and the game is skipping, or your 3D graphics card (if ou have one) isnt up to the task.

hope that clears up some Confusion

I was more talking about your statement about the 64bits reaching 8GHz. I'm sorry, but with today's technology, that would burn a hole through your mobo in a heartbeat. Unless you used something like a constant flow of liquid nitrogen to cool it.

It's so much better because it has 64 thingies! If you have 32 of something and get 32 more well, thats better isent it?

Yeah, its true, it uses new tech. and it has like 7 Ghz. the mac g5 has like 6, and I was reading an article from apple enews that it can go up to 8 ghz, and works great.

No processors are currently capable of those speeds...yet.

                              please dont spread such mis-information.

64bit athlons are hella fast because of the design. When 64bit WinXP is released, they will get ~20% faster. The fastest runs at 2.4ghz, and is faster then both the 3.4EE from intel, and the fastest mac. If anybody wants to tell me that their G5 dual is faster, the Opteron 248 is faster. The fastest mac is 2.0ghz(I think). The A64 and Apple G are very similar in performance clock for clock, so thats why a 2.2A64>2.0G5

                              and thats the truth!

o, one last thing, Apple is a freaking lying company. if u believe their publications...well, theres not much hope for u:P
