Brad.....NO! I mean, yes we have bugs, 'skeetos, sand flies, and no-see-ums that defy the finest mesh nets, BUT, nearly all bands, dog/cat collars, and the like interfere with either the malaria pills, or the Anthrax vaccines, and will make us sick.

OFF brand repellent is good stuff, but so is the GI issue bug cream in the little green tubes. Both of which we have warehouses full of.

BTW, I just now picked up your package. I haven't even opened it yet! Thanks a million buddy!

      cool Army...no bands.

let me know what you think of everything in the box. Be careful with the hot sauce. Good flavor but it's warm...

Army, how goes it on the other side of the world?

Also, would you be interested in a GMail account or two? I've got a slew of them that I'm trying to distro to our troops so they can send/recieve images and stuff, ya know?

        Let me know.

Lordy Lordy Lordy! We had rain on the LSA today!

For two days it's been overcast, but not too bad. Today, big black puffies rolled in with lightning flashing about one a minute. A Russian version of the US C-130 was spiraling to altitude, when a huge lightning halo enveloped it. Then the dirty rain came.....it was wonderful! The drops picked up all the dust in the wind it could carry, and plopped themselves all over, leaving little muddy slpats on everything (it looked like a miniature speedball field after a tourney )

After cleaning my rifle twice, all of us went out and enjoyed the cooling wetness from above. At least the temperature was only in the high 90's, which kept the now 300% humidity tolerable

Had a couple close calls lately, but no casualties or injuries to any of my people. We took a mortar yesterday that was just loud as hell for some reason. It was well outside the wire and away from anything useful, but it was the loudest bang I've heard since being here. Maybe due to the cloud cover and rain, I don't know.

Anyhooo, it's cloudy again today, keeping the temps lower than usual, which is a good thing for now. I'm sure I will be cussing the rain and cold soon enough!

          Later doods!

Brad! Yes, everything arrived in good shape. Funny though, you must be at a pretty good altitude there, as the seed bags were compressed as if they were vacuumed sealed! The hot sauce is excellent! It really makes an MRE a different delight altogether

              Thanks buddy, I needed that!

Must have been the flight over that compressed the seeds. Houston is at 125 above sea level...

Glad you liked the hot sauce. that stuff rocks!

                    More pics!

You get to see this as you roll through the first checkpoint. We ain't kidding either.

This Nissan came up from Baghdad, and was hit by an IED on the way. They also took a few rounds from the bad guys. Somehow, no-one was hurt inside.

                    That's a .50cal bullet. Huuge ants.

This sunset was brought to us juuuuuust before a dust storm kicked up.

This is my post, the main entrance to the base. From this angle, you can see only 7 of the 13 machine gun positions. Yeah, nobody gets past us!

Bad dust storm #2 in a week. They are just like Hollywood's; great rolling cloud of dust that roars down and covers everything in crap.

There was a note in the POD (Plan Of the Day) on my ship a few days ago that said the Post Office was giving free mailing supplies to the families of military members deployed over seas for the holidays. I don't know if they'll give them to non-family members, but they might. I intend to try. Which leads me to my question, what can a poor Bubble-headed Squid get ya for Christmas there Army?

Every night. Are the attacks still as frequent as they seemed to be, based on your older posts?

Frequency has lessened quite a bit, even going a few days with nothing. But now they hit us with 5-6 at once, rather than 9-10 all day long. That's a little more unnerving, since one area gets blasted to poop, when before we had minimal damage from the single random hits. We are a big airbase, think LAX size, so the random single may not hit anything at all, but a cluster will waste an area.

Still, they have only managed to hit a few trucks and the runway itself. We haven't lost anyone to the mortars or rockets since late May.

I don't believe they are getting any more sophisticated, just more lazy. It would be a lot of work to circle this base to set up random mortar shots. I think Hajji is tired of all the walking with such a heavy load, and has decided to launch all of his bombs at one time
