    My school's weapon policy.

    ""

The current 2003-2004 Student Handbook has the following among prohibited
    behaviors:

"Unauthorized storage, use or possession on any campus property (including
items in vehicles) of weapons (as defined by local, state and federal law,
and including any object or substance designed to inflict a wound or cause
injury); explosives; projectiles; flammable solvents; biohazardous,
volatile, or poisonous materials of any kind; or other items which may be
hazardous to the health or safety of others. This inclues, but is not
limited to guns (which includes stun, paint, pellet, dart or BB guns, cap
guns or starter pistols, air rifles or water and toy guns which may be
perceived to be actual weapons), bows, arrows, axes, knives or blades of
any type, numchucks, throwing stars, sling shots, firecrackers or
fireworks. Students wishing to hunt during state approved seasons or to
use this equipment in approved physical education classes may [Note: This
probably should be changed to "shall"] contact Campus Police to store their
firearm or bow (in addition to other sanctions, an automatic minimum fine
of $500 shall be assessed, and suspension or expulsion from the college
    will be examined);"

    where to begin...

guns WTF?! or starter pistols, air rifles or water and toy guns which may be
perceived to be actual weapons), bows, arrows, axes, knives or blades of
any type, Guess that answers the spyderco question numchucks, throwing stars, sling shots, firecrackers or
fireworks. Students wishing to hunt during state approved seasons or to
use this equipment in approved physical education classes may [Note: This

firearm or bow (in addition to other sanctions, an automatic minimum fine
of $500 shall be assessed, and suspension or expulsion from the college
will be examined); this last part is really unclear. you get fined for dropping your bow off?
Wow. I feel really bad for even going to school here.

      I'm not seeing the problem?

Same here. That sounds like every other HS in the country. Not to mention you don't need to bring a pb gun or firecrackers to school.

It's not a HS it a COLLEGE. we are OLD PEOPLE here... I often play paintball (ahem). I often have my gear in my truck. Which could get me expelled apparently. Moreover, I cannot carry my keychain knife either. And I cannot have Gasoline in my car either LOL.

How do they plan on extracting this $500 from you if your not allowed back. They may be able to make you pay the fine to get back into school, but it probably won't hold up if they just want there money after throwing you out.

Hicks take guns to school so they can go hunting afterwards (not joking).

I actually did accidentally take a gun to school this semester, because I left it in the truck! I got in late and had to go to class early and forgot to clean the truck out. If I didn't go to school every day I used to keep a gun in my truck all the time.

And I usualy go pballing right after so I bring my gear w/ me.

most schools will say they aren't allowed but usually don't have a problem with it unless you act reckless with it.

This is correct. Making it a policy gives them the option to enforce. Not nessicarily the requirement. If you paintball marker is locked up in a box in the trunk of your car and never comes out and gets displayed or heaven forbid used for vadalism then I can garantee you that you will never see enforcement of this.

Most of these rules are in your housing contract if you are a campus resident. This allows them to kick you out of the Dorms too. But its in there with a lot of other rules too.

Our campus police dept will check in firearms and such for hunter students. And our ROTC dept maintains a lock up for Paintball markers. And our Club guys normaly have one or more members that live off campus that store paintball markers for resident students. Allthough I know many students that live on campus that maintain their paintball markers in the dorms. But they do so with full knowledge that they MUST keep them safe and hidden. In the end doing that is what the rule is intended to do. Not have them used on campus or displayed thereby causing concern.

I find these rules reasonable. And most often based on an incident that required them.

I've had a gun in my trunk for nearly a year. I also had a gun case in my backseat once that I forgot to take out. I ussually have a knife in my pocket, but the rule at our school is that it can't be longer than 5 inches. Mines only like 2-3. bah , dunno why I am telling you this.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not worried. But I don't like it when rules make everyone a violator, so that the authorities can selectively enforce it for whoever they please based on any reason they say, because it IS against the rules after all.
