Well in reality all laws are selectively enforced. And you want it that way. The object of any law is to protect the general populous and keep the peace. And if all laws were enforced to the fullest each and every time then that intent would not be met and the jails would be full of people that just made a mistake. And the peace would not be served by those peoples arrest or enforcement. So that is never the intent. All laws and rules have a n intent. And the enforcement branch has to consider that when deciding to enforce or not.

So yea... you write laws to allow you to enforce.

But you enforce based upon the "intent" of the law.

"why would anyone want to take a gun to school?"

If you are at college, the better question is why should anyone care as long as you aren't breaking the law.

There's so much violence in colleges... it's right that they aren't allowed.

One of my friend's dads was about 5 feet of conveyor belt away from trying to bring a gun into an airport. He had set the bag down (with a gun he forgot was there) and his cell phone rang. He got the bag back real fast to get the phone and poof there it was. He was able to get it back to the car though, so no harm done.

I know several guys here at ERAU who carry concealed and have their CCPs on them as well (as you should when you carry concealed). But, since they're concealed they aren't seen.

It's better than leaving your gun at home and needing it when you are doing some errands after you've left campus, but don't have your gun b/c you left it at home.

I know several reasons why you'd carry on campus, and they're legitimately valid (we're excepting the obvious crimminal reaons).

why so people who follow the rules dont bring them but other people can use them for crimes since they dont care about being expelled from school or a $500 fine when they rob someone, murder, etc...

'I just recieved a notification that the University has banned all types of weapons from the campus property. With the recent passage of Ohio concealed carry i was getting VERY nervous. I am so very glad that the university has seen fit to protect me and my chosen lifestyle. I can now engage in all of my hobbies without worry of being injured or god fobid killed by an unwilling participant. Again, thank you.

More people that would use them in ways not allowed would be able to have them and have them legally at that.

It's like in an elementary class, when one guy talks the whole class stays after. One guy spoils it for the rest of us.

We profsionals use use the term "CYOA" Cover you're own ***. Like many have stated there probably won't be any problems if you were to violate any of these rules as long and you don't a) brag about it, then of course they will have to bust you or b) act reckless, then of course they will have to bust you.
The CYOA is also sometimes refered to as the liability clause. "If something happenes, we have set rules and it was the student who violated the rule. We didn't cause the death of the stupid moron that shot himself getting his back pack out of his truck"

At my school, we are allowed to keep bags for sports and such in the classrooms. So my friend did one day not knowing his grandpa had packed a knofe for him. Any way, he almost got expeled. It turns out the teacher likes to look through bags randomly (trying to find thongs etc.)
Ever since then we have had these new cameras on campus, 7 to be exact. I just think the whole problem with weapons these days is that people get scared and need a power trip. OR it could simply be because our school district has 2 shootings in a year, perhaps you remember them (Santana HS and Granite Hills HS, both in my city :o )

No one at Ohio State followed the weapons policy. I carried on to campus, among other things, two 12" fix blade knives, a 22" machette, two aluminum baseball bats, and a 20 gauge shotgun. Note, the machette wasn't for cutting weeds and the baseball bats wern't for a pickup game of softball. At anyone time on Ag campus there were enough weapons to start a revolution in a small third world country.

im lazy so i left a shotgun in the back of my car for the entire dove season. went hunting every day after school. sloth is a vice thought, because i live like 2 minutes away from school literally. didn't need to bring it definitely, but i understand why someone who lives out in the country would (people have different places on different sides of the county to hunt here)
