It doesn't really matter how or when it happens, and at this point there are so many unknowns it's unlikely we'd ever see it coming. Oddly enough, I don't regard the total annihilation of the human race as a bad thing. As a species we behave as a malignant parasite, and I'd say we're better off dead.

my imagination went crazy once like that too. I woke in my bed and looked around the room only to find it was completely lit up and glowing orange. It took me a while to get myself together, but when i finally did i assumed the sun was just rising. I thought this til i turned over in my bed and noticed it was 2:00 in the morning. By now i'm a little hesitant to look out my windows cause i figure it's the end of the world..what the hell am i going to see? a firey commet aimed straight for earth? the four horseman of the apocalypse? well when i finally did get my nerve up it turned out my doghouse was going up in a blazing fire! had nice 10-15 foot flames streaming off of it. so there I am in my boxers and nothing else trying to stomp out this raging fire in the middle of the night (fire danger in colorado sucks) soon enough the fire department shows up and gets it all out, noones hurt. heh..that was the weirdest feeling laying in my bed clueless as to what was going on outside though.

Well assuming that we don't blow up the world ourselves first.... I assume that Earth will just no longer be able to support life. I can bet that humans will eff it up first though, either consuming too many natural resources too quickly, or through waste/warfare...

I'd be willing to bet we'll see the end of the world within the next 50 years or so. I think it will start with a war or military conflict in the middle east. Most likely the US is over there defending Isreal and we manage to piss someone else off. I'd wager terrorists, not an actual nation. (perhaps something will happen like the recent bombings in Spain that threw the elections off). Somehow, everyone willl end up either neutral, or against us and isreal. Later down the road, our economy will fail for some reason or another (perhaps we're too engulfed in the war effort, idk). I'd be willing to bet that once that happens, we might see a foreign military invade the US. (Lets see them try and take Texas
)

By the way, all living things are viruses when you think about it, just not humans. Animals and plants consume and spread, just like a virus. That's the goal of all life... stay alive and make babies. So really, all viruses are like living things.
