But isnt our definition of "sound" the refractions of such waves throughout the sensory resceptors in our ears, such as the ear drum and what not?

Without the manufactured representation of this sound, in the ear, or whatever area that can pick up sound likewise, then is the sound truely still created?

        yes...leave a sound recorder...truly, no ones there...

also, leave a blind person totally deaf, cant hear a thing, in the woods when the tree falls, leave him with something that measure sound waves

If something... anything... with ear drums and a brain or for that matter almost any method of tansfering shock waves to brain waves i.e. sound were present it would indeed be sound.

If the sound is loud enough it is picked up in the form of vibration from the rest or you body (like bass) so the definition of sound could not be based on ears alone. Who was that composer who was deaf? Dont remember which one but he wrote music based on the varied vibrations of each note. So I guess if he were in the woods he could tell you if the tree was on tune or flat.

The real question is this: If a tree falls in the woods and nobody, and nothing is there to hear/record it, who cares if it makes a sound because nobody and nothing is there to hear/record it?

The composer you're thinking of was probobly Beethoven. He wrote some great music. HOWEVER... he didn't lose his hearing until he was 32. I have personally met people who can write small pieces of music for a small group without hearing it until it's complete, and it turns out right, so it stands to reason that Beethoven, probobly one of the greatest composers of all time, could do the same with a large piece of music written for a large orchestra, and have it turn out right without ever hearing it. Good argument though.
