If America needed to see this video, why do you think the news channels edited all the violent parts out? If the networks, who present information to the public for a living, felt that should not have been shown to mainstream America, there is no reason that an adult should give other people's children the chance to see it.

Of course the kids who could watch it would watch it. They're only naturally curious, plus you got the peer pressure thing going, but they really have little idea of how horrible the content is.

I agree with many of you. Kids who want to see the movie will. Nobody can stop a determined kid from doing all sorts of things there parents wouldn't approve of. At the same time, any teacher who aids them is an idiot. Giving kids a hand in doing somthing that is controversial (to say the least) with their parents is something that should have set off the big "you're going to lose your job" siren in his head.

sorry about the late reply on what exactly happened but heres the lowdown:

his computer is in the front of the class NOT facing the classroom, but at a 90* angle towards the desks. i was not in the class when he showed it, so i do not know if he turned his computer around or what, but my guess would be that he said "if you want to see it you can come up here". i heard he had it and i went into his classroom 3rd block to watch it. for those who have not seen it, it is blurry, bad quality, you cant see blood clearly, just dark spots that you assume are blood. saving private ryan, band of brothers, etc, are MUCH more gory than this video. i say those two movies (miniseries) because he let the same class watch those movies. of course those were movies and this is real life.

and to all you right wing republican know-it-alls( you know who you are) who said this "liberal" teacher "polluted" the minds of americas youth. this teacher is one of the biggest REPUBLICAN that i know. i like how you all jumped to conclusions and said it was a democrat or liberal. coo coo cool.

this guy is one of the nicest teachers i know. hes got a masters in some sort of history, and he knows how to teach. his brother died in vietnam, he was in the first Gulf War, and he also knows a bunch of WWII veterans. he is no stranger to war.

this is the reality of war. when kids see this, they realize that war isnt ok or cool. it is a last chance effort to achieve something. im guessing that the reason republicans dont want anybody to see this is because it might change their minds about the war. it shows the hatred and determination of these "terrorists". in a way, i respect them. they are taking a stand against a cocky country in a war without reason. their relatives are being killed for all the wrong reasons and being thrown into jail for such little reasons as electrical wire sitting outside their house. around 10,000 INNOCENT civilians have died throughout this war. look what happened when the terrorists killed 3,000 people on 9/11. our country got so pissed off they started wars with TWO countries! now think how pissed of the iraqi people are since we have killed 10,000 of thier people.

by not allowing your kids to view this video is only going to make them want to see it more.

and rooster, whats with your habit of calling people on the other end of a discussion "little" and "child"? how old are you? (or should i say, how old do you SAY you are?). is this some sort of superiority complex or something? when you can beat a 33 on the ACT's (like i got) then you can start calling me a child.

and if you think this is too grotesque for high school students, heres a reality check (for all you parents). most of your boys will start looking at porn when they are 12, wether you like it or not. your kids will probably start drinking by 9th or 10th grade, and smoking pot by the time theyre seniors. i would guess that in our h.s. or about 1,300 students (grades 9-12), about 90% have drank at least once, about 50% drink regularly, about 70% have tried pot, and about 30% do it regularly. 100% of boys look at porn on a regular basis by the time theyre in 10th grade. about 20% of students smoke regularly, and about 90% have tried it. this sint coming from a survey, this is coming from me, somebody who is in h.s. and who knows whats going on.

Actually a lot of Republicans are encouraging people to see the film. It's generally found on more right wing sites than left because it shows just what kind of cold blooded animals we're fighting. Your teacher took the choice for MINOR children out of their parent's hands. It was'nt his call to make and is'nt any more approriate than showing porn in sex ed. He overstepped his bounds. Kids don't always know what's best for them and the call to see certain things should'nt be theirs.

As for your "repecting" murderers, I have to say that's the saddest thing I've heard in a long time. They are not freedom fighters they are criminals.

Let's not call it an execution, either. Executions denote some sort of punishment for a crime. He was a contractor there to help rebuild a war-torn country, and he was murdered.

does everybody think that this video will make kids commit suicide or go on a killing spree? what harm does this video do to kids? all it does is show them the reality of the war we are fighting.

Well considering a few of the initial complaints were filed by students who watched the vids I'd say some were negatively affected.

Again, that's up for the parents to decide, not their kids and certainly not their teachers.

whered you get the idea that students complained? ONE PARENT complained. the student might not have even complained to the parent, they might have just said that they saw the video in his class. that much i do not know.

dude...thats not at all what was reported in the news last night and I saw the interview from your principal and HE said MANY PARENTS called in complaints. And he agreed it was irresponsible...

The facts as you were, and still are, reporting them are different from the official facts released.

Well at this point I would be consulting a lawyer and suing him and the administration from this crap if there had not been permission slips for both of those movies - I have not checked but if I recall they were rated R. This was a pattern of action, if he did that without permission he should have been fired then. As for him "offering" to allow children to see it... that is the same as offering to let them see porn. Could they do it on their own, sure but that is not with an adult accomadating it.

and to all you right wing republican know-it-alls( you know who you are) who said this "liberal" teacher "polluted" the minds of americas youth. this teacher is one of the biggest REPUBLICAN that i know. i like how you all jumped to conclusions and said it was a democrat or liberal. coo coo cool.
I don't care who he was, this was irresponsible and he should be dealt with for it. We trust teachers, when they prove to have no foresight to the results of their own actions they should find there are consequences.

this guy is one of the nicest teachers i know. hes got a masters in some sort of history, and he knows how to teach. his brother died in vietnam, he was in the first Gulf War, and he also knows a bunch of WWII veterans. he is no stranger to war.

We have reasons to be in that country - valid reasons. Like it or not we are there for a reason, you may disagree wtih them but this is not a war without reason

by not allowing your kids to view this video is only going to make them want to see it more.
Right.. and by not accomadating my children drinking, smoking, having sex... you know I should just say its ok cause they ahve no morals - oh wait.. my children actually listen to me, not 100% but any adult that is going to accomondate an activity I do not condone is going to find there are consequences. And for the record, the day I take parenting advice from a high school student is the day I ask a nun abut the best parts of the Kama Sutra.

and rooster, whats with your habit of calling people on the other end of a discussion "little" and "child"? how old are you? (or should i say, how old do you SAY you are?). is this some sort of superiority complex or something? when you can beat a 33 on the ACT's (like i got) then you can start calling me a child.
I scored exceptionally high on every test I ever took, does not mean I will succeed in life does it. There is a real world and those tests have little to do with them.

and if you think this is too grotesque for high school students, heres a reality check (for all you parents). most of your boys will start looking at porn when they are 12, wether you like it or not. your kids will probably start drinking by 9th or 10th grade, and smoking pot by the time theyre seniors. i would guess that in our h.s. or about 1,300 students (grades 9-12), about 90% have drank at least once, about 50% drink regularly, about 70% have tried pot, and about 30% do it regularly. 100% of boys look at porn on a regular basis by the time theyre in 10th grade. about 20% of students smoke regularly, and about 90% have tried it. this sint coming from a survey, this is coming from me, somebody who is in h.s. and who knows whats going on
The key to all percentages is - are my children involved? If they are I will deal wtih it. The point again is not so much as what happened (that they saw the video) but that an adult in a position of authroity accomodated it.

Well.... Not certain I follow all that drivel. Most of it goes way into conjecture and nonsense not even related to what anyone said. Not to mention presumptuous and preposterous conclusions of error... but...

First of all he showed it to THREE CLASSES. Not one.

Second of all no one here has said they would not GIVE PERMISSION as long as asked and the context of how it was to be handled was explained FIRST

i've seen the video 2 times now, personally i dont think the teacher should have been fired, he wasn't showing the movie to CHILDREN, he was showing it to TEENAGERS, i believe that us teenagers should have a choice in what is going to make us gag or not

the video that i seen was in very very poor resloution so you couldn't see much of anything, it was quite horiffic though, but it is the TRUTH, not some sugar coated lies

---I LIVE IN MINNESOTA NOT TEXAS....in other words, this is NOT what you saw on the news cphil. see under my name, where it says southern minnesota as the place i live?

---he had permission slips for saving private ryan, but he didnt for band of brothers

---whether you like it or not, your kids will lie to you about illegal things. you may think that your teenagers are good kids and theat they always listen to you, but thats what every parent thinks. mayeb your kids actually do listen to you, i dont know. the fact is, that if you ask teenagers if they have drank/smoked/whatever, they will say no. even if they did do it, they will say no. even if the odds are against them, they will say no. for teenagers, its not if its right or wrong, its whether you will get caught or not. you dont have to believe me, you can just shrug it off as lies, but these days, its the truth.

---and so far, the teacher has not been fired as i had first posted. i saw him in school today, and he was on the same schedule he normally is.
