    intel benchmarks?

Well I haven't exactly been keeping up with intel recently. But started thinking about laptops and relized no one makes laptops with amd's???

Anyway, I didn't a little bit of research but didn't find a answer to some questions.

what's the differance between a p4, pm and a centrino and how to they benchmark against eachother?
Why does intel make p4's as fast as 3.2 but pm's only go as fast as 1700??

I'm sick of hearing it. Macs suck. I like macs about as much as Microsoft.

Not a good idea if you ever want to run on battery for a reasonable amount of time. Go with a pentium-M

no kidding macs suck. ive used powermacs, power books, i macs, e macs, every damn kind of mac. not one has been a good experience. they are only good for editing stuff, and the interface is about as user friendly as an enraged bull dog (for me anyway)

osx is completely different. its actuallt good, i'll admit there older os's weren't very good. and the new powermac g4's own. go to yournearest macstore (nto a retailer but a real store) try one out, you'll be hooked.

I really liking this G4 powerbook with Panther on it and my new G5 with dual 2 Ghz processors smokes anything I ever used at work! Still learning some of the tricks and that takes a while. But the things I find it does for me are amazing. And only a few negatives that I can work around. Way more positives than negatives when you get to know them.

if u want an Intel something or other, get a centrino. they are what the p4 should have been. They get alot more done per clock cycle then a normal p4 mobile.

I've got an HP with a Athlon XP-M 2500+, and I like it but those eMachine's with the Athlon 64's... DAMN, lol. I wish I had one of those even though they're pretty big since the Athlon 64 is a desktop chip, not a laptop chip.

And yes, Mac's suck. I tried my sisters powerbook g4 about a month ago and hated it.

I can't keep up with all the different Intel speed ratings, and I really should be able to . I do know that for a laptop to be called a "Centrino" It requires it to have 3 parts. A specific processor, a specific chip set and a specific wireless setup. If it does not have one of those, even though it has the other two, it can't be marketed as Centrino.

Me either that's why I have to ask. Amd's have outperformed intel in desktop applications since the late staged of the p2's. But don't take my word for it go to tom's hardware and read about it yourself. Of course there are SOME setup that do beat AMD but with that pricetag is it really outperforming anything but your bank account?

Ok so here's my next question. what rating does a centrino and/or a PM have that compares with a p4-3000? since the fastes centrino or pm I've seen was around 1700mhz if I'm remembering right?

We really need to do about with clock speeds and find a standart to rate processing power.

Anyway about the mac's I'm not saying the new ones aren't nice... but retarded expensive. Cphilip, what did you pay for that? Right NOW it probaply outperformes my pc. next year with 300$ I'll be outperforming yours. It cost's me ~300$ a year for a new mobo and processor to stay current. it cost's a mac owner what? 1200$ a year to stay current?

Perfomance isn't everything. Some of us have payments to make and then there's counterstrike

So how about it... anyone got an answer for my question in the second paragraph?

yeh....i could not be happier with my G4 Powerbook. Best damn computer I've owned (two Gateways, one old school Mac).

Oh, Phil, have you figured out this expose thing....whoa!

AMD's hava a reputation of consuming massive amounts of power and running hotter thats why you dont see them often in laptops. the battary would not last very long.

I currently have a Pentium M laptop Along with 55 other people in our class. The pentium M is really good. At the lowest power setting I can get around 5 hours of runtime.

The other 33 people have powerbooks of which about 30 has went back to apple for problems. Were taking bets on when the last 3 will croak. They just don't hold up to the abuse of the average dental student.
