Be more specific, when does it occur?

My guess is some sort of incompatible hardware. Recently plug something in? Install new drivers?

no new hardware/drivers installed recently........happened only once...randomly. but it has me worried.

also, there's a frequent whirring noise coming out of my computer, which is new. it comes and goes every three seconds or so. it's very odd...this is REALLY not my week. any help would be greatly appreciated guys...i really need it..

That whirring noise is your fan. That just means one, it's probably dusty or is getting old and two, it makes that noise whenever you're doing something on the computer correct? Like if you run a program it makes the noise?

Check to make sure that no cables are rubbing against the fan. Don't know why it'd be itermittent if that's the problem, but you should still check it.

Also, have you ever had your system randomly reset on you? If so, it may be your power supply.

The dude said something funny, so rather than calling me a post whore go back to trying to figgure out the problem with your busted up comp.
