If two people pointed guns at eachother...

So I just got done watching Paycheck, and there's a scene where two guys point guns at eachother from about 2 feet away and neither of them fire, but they both want to kill eachother. My question is, if one of them shot, would the other have time to react/would their reflexes shoot the gun? I've seen this in many movies, so don't base your answer on the Paycheck example, because technically they didn't want to kill eachother blah blah blah.

also, what are some other movie scenes that happen often and are completely unbelievable or make you stnad up and shout at the tv? (like the above example, I started shouting "Just shoot him!" at the top of my lungs.)

I'm gonna say yea, they would either by their hand judt clenching up from getting shot or they would see the others finger start to move and pull the trigger themselves.

I think what you would see is a flexing of the arm muscles, a change in facial expression, a movement of the gun, maybe some other stuff, if the other guy started to pull the trigger.

Enough time to react? I dunno.

I watched that for the second time last night, good movie. I always wondered the same thing though: if I was in the situation, I would just shoot them.

Enemy of the State has a good scene like that towards the end.

Depends entirely on your level of training and dedication to exterminating another life.

Speaking for myself, I've been shooting pistols and rifles for years and have gone to numerous manufactuer shooting classes as well as some courses give by Thunder Ranch in Texas.

These courses are essential if you are going to be a regular carrier or even just a home owner without ccw privs.

That being said all the training in the world will not matter one iota if you are not prepared to defend yourself with deadly force. I would like to think that I would be willing to shoot but one just never does know.

This was an atrocity of file editing. I assume you refer to squibs going off before the appropriate character had ever been shot?

I don't know about the trigger thing but, there are alot of things that annoy me in movies. the only example I can think of, off the top of my head is charlies angels 2(don't laugh) its a kinda cool movie, especially the dancing part(which is the only reason I watched the movie). anyway, there are so many inconsistincies that you just gotta laugh.

Yes, its possible for both to get the shot off. Granted, the second person firing maybe be doing it out of reflex though, if he got punched through the heart...although, it may take a second or two to actually die. The only place that I know of that INSTANTLY stops all motor actions is the medulla oblongata (I think thats what its called)...basically, put a bullet right between the nose and upper lip. That will shut the body down instantly. Of course...its a small target...a human chest at 2 feet is as big as a football field.

even if one person actually shoots, after the second gets shot, he'll have a few minutes to get the shot off at the first at least. anyway, i know for sure id have no problem pulling the trigger right away.
