Doh! I thought they buried him at sunrise, not sunset... okay, so I am a few hours early on speaking out my opinion, but the meaning of my waiting until he was interred is still there... simple mistake. I'll wait until sunset to comment further, in hopes of furthering a good discussuion.

The point of FoL's thread is to pay tribute to a great leader who died. I posted the Ceaser quote to shame those slamming him today. Let the man be buried. Let the nation mourn him. Attack his memory tommorrow.

Last time I checked, Clinton is the only US President to publicly admit to and apologize for a illicit sexual liason while in the Whitehouse. Everything else is rumor and innuendo, even the allegations against Kennedy.

First off I'm not attacking his memory. I'm attacking his actions as President. But fine, I'll wait to continue any attacks on him until tomorrow provided I can attack your rampant stupidity today.

You can argue all that you want that AIDS was a new disease as it most certainly was in 1981 but by 1987 it was most certainly not new. By that time over 90,000 people in America alone were directly effected by it and yet it took Reagan over 6 years to even say the word AIDS in public.

This was a gross dereliction of his duty as our President. He was responsible to protect all of us, whether he approved of homsexuality or not, illegal drug use or not.

As for your instance that it was new in '81 this is completely just not true. The frsit cases og GRID (Gay Retro Immunity Disease) were recorded in Sweden and the US as far back as '78. GRID, in 1982 became AIDS (Acquired Immune Dificiency Syndrome) on July 27th.

This was done to specifically remove the belief that AIDS was a "gay" disease which is the stupidest thing I ever heard.

For the record, Reagan finally did utter the word "AIDS on September 17, 1985. My earlier assertions of a longer time period were wrong. Still, 5 years is a hella long time to wait.

Bush didn't wait even a tiny fraction of that time to deal with SARS.

You only give two times a year? I'm up to almost 4 gallons for the past year and a half.

The point of this thread is the Reagan was not onlynot a great leader but was also one of the worst and unlike Facts I will welcome all opinions and views here.

And your point is what? That because Clinton did it every Democrat did it?

Then by the same logic every Republican is a dope dealer a liar. Reagan authorized the trafficking of drugs to Americans in order to raise funds to buy weapons for the Contra's on the illegal black market.

Add to that the fact that the illegal gun trade and the illegal drug trade have deep and significant ties to terrorism we can also extrapolate (definition for Fool and deadhead ) that all Republicans are responsible for the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

                      Hey man, it's your logic.

True there is no "hard evidence" but I do find it odd how the houds of Capitol Hill became so quite when Larry Flint threatened to out them.

Conjecture makes up so much of our daily decisions let's not presume that it will not hold sway here.

What i find interesting is Hasty's constant use of the phrase:

"before he ever even spoke the word AIDS in public"

"Reagan finally did utter the word "AIDS" on September 17, 1985"

So because Reagan "finally did utter the word" years later, that means he was ignoring the problem? I don't think so.

More liberal nonsense if u ask me. Reagan's choice of words in varioius public speeches do not reflect every detail he discusses in his many daily meetings.

Go dig up some other quote that has some relevance here

How do I answer this using small enough words?

Reagan never acknowledged the existance of the disease and the CDC was hard pressed to get funding fo the reasearch for it.

The National Bllod banks felt that since the President was not that concerned about it then they should not either. since there was no executive interest in the problem the banks were certainly not going to incur the cost of testing their current stocks to ensure purity.

You righties can't have it both ways. You can't aruge that Regan collpased the Soviets because he bought a lot of toys to play with but then argue that just because he never spoke on the topic of AIDS that the lack of public knowledge and funding was not his fault.

At least have the gumption to stick to your guns in your arguments.

one other tiny thing. If Reagan was so "behind the scenes" involved with the fight to halt the spread of AIDS then why was his one and only public message against AIDS not done nutil 1991?

Because of his ridiculous religious beliefs that clouded his mind that this was a "homosexual" disease and was somehow punishment from god. Even if he did not belive exactly that I am willing to bet vital parts of my anatomy that he didn't really care about the homosexuals who were dying simply because they were gay.

You probably think that Roy Cohn was a great litagator too.

It is the same thing. You did attack him as uncaring. As for rampant stupidity, I know history and you do not. I know that Reagan served from January of 1981 to January of 1989. Not 80 to 87 as you stated.

AIDS is still not understood today. The President should have done what? He is not a doctor. It is the Surgeon General's job to issue public health warnings, blame Dr. Koop!

Look, im not saying Reagan was "behind the scenes" fighting for a cure for AIDS.

Im saying, that its bull for you to argue his involvement based on when he first publicly said "AIDS"

Can't you hear how ridiculous that sound?!. "The first time he publicly used the word "AIDS" was in ________<---Insert Date Here"
Even if that was accurate, which im sure its not, how is that any indication as to what he was doing to stop or minimalize the disease.
