    Downloading music legally?

I'm looking for a LEGAL way to download music online. Do you guys have any suggestions? And what's the deal with Kazaa lite? Thanks in advance.

i use the new Napster which is .99p/song.

It's not bad but I do have one problem. The songs are encoded in a SWMA (Secure WAV format) which means that to copy it you first have to burn it to a disc and then re-rip it to your drive. This means having to retype in the title and artists names.

BTW - I'm not making illegal copies or anything. copyright law allows me to re-record the music for my own personal pleasure. I have a cd player in my car that playes MP3 encoded discs so instead of fitting maybe 14 songs ona single disc I can now fit about 180 p/disc. The canger holds ten discs so I can store a ton of music for my long distance drives which is great.

Kazaa lite is still quite illegal. the RIAA is using IP's gathered from this program in order to contact ISP's and subpoena information regarding the user with that IP. No good.

iTunes is neat...But, I usually buy cd's, then rip them to mp3. That, and Artists from mp3.com (is that still aroind?) are probably your best bets...it's not looking good for legal online music 'sharing' right now.
        Such a sham(e).

With newer versions of kazaa lite, they have IP blockers which block out IP addresses known to be bad (RIAA, etc.) and I also believe it conceals your IP. I use it to 'aquire' my music. I haven't heard anything about the RIAA in a while, did they give up, or is it just not talked about anymore?

They probably shut up about it, or are in the middle of a round of lawsuits, you will probably hear about a new one soon.

When I got my Dell, there was a program that came with it called MusicMatch. Its .99 per song or like 5 bucks or so for an entire album. Its pretty good. I need to find a way to burn CDs outside of that program cuz its pretty slow.

I fail to understand this hatred of the American system.

Do you hate Ford because they do not give away their products free of charge?

What about Burger King? Do you feel that because you bought a hamburger that BK should be obligated to give all your friends a hamburger as well?

That is exactly what you are doing. You are saying that because one of your firends bought a cd that you and countless others should be allowed to steal and distribute those songs to whomever you like.

It's stealing and no argument that you can put forth is going to show otherwise.

One of the biggest arguments was that in order to get a song that you liked you had to buy a whole cd of crap to get just that one song.

Well, with the advent of numerous online music services this argument is now shot full of holes.

Another argument that I heard which was hilarious was that the cd's were practically impossible to open. Again, this argument is shot down.

The RIAA has every right to defend it's products as does any other manufacturer.

Everything in the post I responede to, language, tone, everything painted a fairly large picture that you disliked the RIAA. And in the form of an apology, the "you" in my response was not meant to single you, Fanatic, out. It was meant as a general catch all phrase, referring to the general public who feels that they have a right to essentially steal the hard work and huge investments of others.

Sorry if there was any confusion.

just be careful on who you quote...you quoted me, therefore the obvious assumption was that you were talking to me
anyways...maybe it was my own fault i didnt put a little smiley at the end to give hints of my sarcasm

Lol, thanks guys. For some reason kazaa lite is no longer free... i mean the sfotware is but the website isn't. They insinuate that everything you pull off is legitamate... but it sounds too good to be true. I mean if that was the case, everything else would be out of business right?

Not true. I think the next step we will be seeing is a free to download site for registered users. The revenue generated will be buy the owner of the site paying for banner ads and what not so any moneis lost to the free downloads could possibly be very well regained by the revenue generated by the advertising buys.

Seeing as how the download market appeals to primarily the "buying" demographic this would be a good idea.
