    Spider-Man 2

OK, who is going tonight (er ... well tomorrow morning) for the midnight screenings? Since AO seems to be heavily populated with movie lovers, I'd like to hear some opinions from everyone on Spider-Man 2. I'm a big fan of the original, despite the MTV attention span CGI that was in the first film.

Surprisingly, everyone is claiming that Spidey 2 is superior to the original in every detail. As of today (Tuesday), Spider-Man 2 has a 100% positive rating at Rotten Tomatoes and earned a 4 Star review from Roger Ebert, who has never been shy about his fetish for the Marvel universe.

I'm taking a long lunch tomorrow to see a 10:00AM matinee ... anyone else?

They're saying that it's going to be another X2 or T2. (Where the sequel surpasses the original.)

The tentacles remind me ALOT of the Sentinels from the Matrix. Otherwise, I'm excited to see this.

So long as it indeed is better than the first, then I'll see it...but if it's anywhere close to the pure & utter crap known as the original, then I'm not going near it.
I'm way too old for this ****.

Hehe! I had the opportunity to see it last night. It's definitely worth watching. Toby seems to do a better job this time around. The movie had so much in it but they did a good job of not making it feel like they crammed it all in there within a few hours. The fighting sequence were really good and they gave us more swinging this time. I'd like to say more but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Oh, and while you're at it...support a fellow AOer and go buy the console game too! It will definitely let you relive the movie and give you the ability to be Spider-Man!

Dood!! You have no clue how much I wanted to get you inside! You just gotta hate corporate politics. Once you get bought out by a big company, getting your friends in becomes a little bit harder. Believe me, I wanted to get a referral bonus too...LOL!

Edit: Ooops! Didn't mean to go off track...but GO Watch the movie!

                  Just got back...

Wow, it was a great movie!

a little too much spidey cg, but other than that, holy crap, way better than the first one (which was also really good).

I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. The plot was much more intense than the original.

I got a chance to go last night and was impressed. Spidey 2 was a great flick, though it was a little slow moving in parts. I think what has surprised me the most is the number of characters in the film that are true to the comic book, so no fewer than three characters who have screen time and speaking roles in Spider-Man 2 are potential villains for upcoming films.

I read the comic book religiously through the late-70s and 80s, and found myself having to explain some key characters to my girlfriend after we left the theater. So, for those who aren't fimiliar with the Spidey-verse, here are some plot points to consider (SPOILERS AHEAD):

                        1. Dr. Curt Conners - Peter Parker's professor makes an appearance here. He only has about two minutes of screen time, most notably in a scene at the beginning of the film, then again in a montage set to "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" after Peter has given up on being Spider-Man. Dr. Conners has one arm, which will lead him down a path of research to discover how some reptiles can regenerate lost limbs and their tails. He will become a villain, the Lizard, after his self-experimentation goes awry. The Lizard was a staple villain in the comics right behind Doc Ock, so his character is likely to be important in the next film.

                        2. John Jameson - John Jameson is the astronaut son of J Jonah Jameson (the editor of the Daily Bugle). John also became a villain in the comics, Man-Wolf, after discovering a mysterious ruby-like gem on the moon. Not an interesting character overall, so this story likely wouldn't be pursued in the films, though the second movie does make mention of John having been on the moon already.

                        3. Harry Osborn - The movie wasn't subtle at all about this thread. Harry Osborn will become the Green Goblin II. Spider-Man 2 sets up Harry as the bad guy for the third film, though I think the story leads in a direction to have two major villains, Green Goblin II and the Lizard.

So far, Raimi's films have been exceedingly loyal to the comic books, with the exception of Gwen Stacy - Peter's original girlfriend before MJ.

Alfred Molina was perfect as Doc Ock, and the CG for Doctor Octopus was flawless, particularly the fight on the train.

Saying a lot of AOers are movie lovers is like saying "AO seems populated with people who pee".

Movies are an american past time and a relatively cheap form of entertainment. Why state "we have movie lovers" isn't it a given?

                          Second, Spidy 2 rocked.. hard.

The first was great, sans MTV blather.

It's a lot better than some of the OTHER comic ideas to hit theaters.
