I know a lot of people say this movie is really slow at parts, and it is, but my friend informed me as to why. Since they are planning many new spiderman films, they needed to build up the characters so you understand the characters themselves and not jsut what they do. I hope you guys understand what I just said, because I have a tough time explaining things I'm not too sure about.

I think the way they showed us that Harry was going to be the next villian was a little too in our face. I like to keep guessing as to who the next villian will be and all that.

I really liked the movie though, and the CG was completely awesome. The fusion reaction scenes just blew me away completely.

No, the Hobgoblin(s) - there were two IIRC - were a different story arc. The first Hobgoblin is a wealthy fashion tycoon named Rod Kingsley. The second Hobgoblin is Ned Leeds, who is a field reporter at the Bugle (this character's name is spoken in the first film, but there is no appearance by an actor playing the part). Kingsley buys the serum from Oz Corp, but is able to modify it to not impart the insanity/dual personality side effect.

The Green Goblin arc always follows the Osborn family. Norman was the first, Harry was the second, then Harry's psychiatrist, Dr. Hamilton, becomes the third. Hamilton discovers the GG equipment after placing Harry under hypnosis. Harry (GG II) is the most menacing, but neither he nor Spider-Man ever kill each other, since they both know who the other really is.

No. John brings back the symbiote to earth. It bonds with spidey when he saves john after the crash. Spidey gets it off and it then bonds with Eddie Brock (i think that is his name) a disgraced reporter who hates spiderman.

Of course in the original comic books, venom originated in the Secret Wars series as a super costume for spidey!

Correct. Eddie Brock is Venom. And his name is mentioned in the first movie.

They could easily just turn him into Venom though.

My brother said it woulda been pretty cool if after he got left at the altar you saw his eyes turn black.

I think using the same villian in 2 of the first three movies is kinda lame, personally. Spiderman has so many awesome badguys, why use the same one twice?

Well, according to an interview with the executive producer, Avi Arad, the villain(s) for the third film, set for release in 2007, are supposed to be a "big surprise." He also admitted that regardless of what Maguire, Dunst, and Raimi do, he wants to do nine[!!!] Spider-Man films. There are two problems with Venom as a villain at this point.

In 1997, Marvel licensed the rights to Venom to New Line, they did not, however, license the rights to Eddie Brock, Peter Parker/Spider-Man, or anyone else in the Marvel Universe. New Line was going to do a stand alone horror/thriller featuring Venom, but aborted the project when the budget started to balloon to $60 Mil, and their current comic book movie, the $40 Mil Spawn, took a critical beating - it only grossed $55 Mil, which by Hollywood's measure is a failure. The following year, Blade turned out to be a huge success for New Line, so they put Venom back into play, but shelved the project again when they couldn't find either an actor or director to star in their now-$80 Mil production. They shelved the Venom project a third time, even though the screenplay was completed, to fund Blade 2. Work is now completed on Blade 3 (Trinity), with production moving already to Blade 4. According to Arad and Stan Lee, the rights to Venom have since recently reverted back to Marvel since New Line was in default on the property. At present, Sony, who has the rights for Spider-Man, hasn't picked up the license for Venom, though - curiously - they do have the right for Eddie Brock.

Second, Sam Raimi is on record as hating the Venom character. Raimi only intends to do characters from the classic era 60's & 70's books which he is familiar with. This would rule out Venom and Hobgoblin, who all made their debuts in the early to mid 80's.

The most likely possible 'surprise' for a villain, while being in the realm of something that Raimi would apparently be interested in, would be either Scorpion, Vulture, or Sandman. While Venom appears now to be a possibility at least in terms of the legal use, I think Avi Arad and Stan Lee are content to sit on Venom and let a different director handle the plot line after Raimi steps down.

To hear Arad and Lee explain it, it appears that they want to do a Star Wars-like trilogy of trilogies, covering the major points in the Spider-Man mythos. If Maguire, Dunst, and Raimi all leave after Spider-Man 3, it's almost a certainty that Venom and Carnage would become a new, self-contained storyline for a darker series under a new director in Spider-Mans 4 - 6.

Marvel's slate is enormous. In the next 2 years, all of the following are due to be released:

                        Iron Fist (2006) (in production)
                        Black Widow, The (2006) (announced)
                        Deathlok (2006) (announced)
                        X-Men 3 (2006) (announced)
                        Iron Man (2005) (announced)
                        Ghost Rider (2005) (pre-production)
                        Luke Cage (2005) (pre-production)
                        Fantastic Four (2005) (pre-production)
                        Elektra (2005) (filming)
                        Blade: Trinity (2004) (post-production)
                        Man-Thing (2004)

This doesn't include Daredevil 2, which will be independant of Jennifer Garner's stand-alone film Elektra, Hulk 2, and a sequel to The Punisher. The properties for Namor, Thor, Nick Fury, Dr. Strange, Captain America, and Black Panther are already taken by studios as well. Incidentally, for those who caught the Dr Strange reference in Spider-Man 2, the script is completed and at Dimension Films, which is owned by Mirimax - not Sony.

I thought Spidey 2 was twice as good as the original. But everyone who I saw it with HATED it. I dont think they understand that comic book movies are almost required to be cheesy.

Question: In the original comic books, was spiderman's name hyphonated like it is for the movies ie: Spider-man?

erut, thats exactly why i loved the movie, cuz it was sort of cheesy, and it was what made it really good. that fight on the train is....unbelievable to say the least.

i really really liked sm2, as much or more so than the original. i felt the round and round love saga between peter and mj was overkill, but my guess was it followed the comic (i never read the comic so i cant be certain). the fight scenes with doc ock were fantastic, espically on the train. i didnt understand why his mask was so fouled up that he had to take it off but was then good enough to put right back on. i agree with thor, they cant have the same villian in 2 of the first 3. al in all, it was well worth having to stand in a line for half an hour surrounded by annoying teenagers.

I believe the reason why he took off the mask on the train fight was because when he went to check out the damaged control panel, a part of it flew up and hit him on the face...it almost looked like it was on fire for a quick moment. It happened so fast it was really hard to tell.
