well scott, il tell ya, once you open the windows, and the sun roof, there is just as much air flowing in as there would be in a regular convertible we have had the following convertibles, and i can tell ya from comparison. 89 lebarron, mazda miata, mg td, and an mg tf. The mg's have the most air flow, but the lebaron and the mazda, with the way most modern windshields are designed, dont allow that much airflow.

Scott, just trust me and testdrive one, for my sake. And bring a spare pair of underwear.. you might mess your self

whats cooler than 9000 rpm's? and an engine that theoretically works just like a v12? Each roter gets 3 fires per rpm, and there are 2 rotors. in a regular v12 , only 6 cylendars get a fire per rpm. Granted, the wankle doesnt generate that much power, compared to a v12, but yea. The rx8 will out handle the stangs as well.

Just trust me man, you will fall inlove with it instantly.

      350Z Roadster

      Now THATS a gorgeous convertible.

now the 350z is a nice car, but it does wear you out while driving it, and it has the same track time as the rx8. I would drive both, and see which you like. And the laughable amount of torque you speak of? the thing will still peal out, and it will out accelerate the 350z

and, the traction control and limited slip differential in the rx8, is amazing, ofcourse, for driving like a maniac, your gunna wanna turn off the traction control, but this car, is honestly amazing, and i wouldnt advise some one to get a car, that i do not fully back, as in my opinion, being the best bang for your buck, and being an amazing machine.

Dodge Magnum, I drove my dad's for a week at Senior Beachweek(his graduation gift to me) and gotta say, it's funner than hell to drive(more power than I am used to and I drive a Powerstroke diesel 50% of the time), it's got lots of room in it(All my clothes for a week, all my fishing stuff, 3 days worth of food for 13 highschool grads, and my best friends clothes and she's a girl...with enough room for a 27" tv and two George Forman grills).....and best of all, it's comfortable. I drove nonstop for 7 hours and still was game to go to the store, the tackle shop, and the pharmacy.

My vote is definitely the Dodge Magnum. My dad loves it. I love it. You'll love it.

That or wait for the 2k5 mustang.

I have to say the 350Z is, again like its older cousin the 240Z, is a class leader. Go with the 350Z, its torquey, good acceleration, and handles extremely well according to everyone who drives one. While I have nothing against the RX8, but rotary engines are...well...different. You say it fires comparable to a v12, yeah a 1300cc v12. Rotarys like to rev, and thats where all your torque will be. Sure 9000 rpm sounds fun, but isn't the ability to pull strong from the beginning to 7200rpm like the 350Z better than waiting for the 7000rpm to 9000rpm range to mess around with to feel the car move? I guess its preference. But remember you can't go wrong with one of these

well, you do have a point, the torque goes up, as the rpm's go up in the rx8. its like a retro valve, faster you shoot, faster the balls go.

The thing is tho, the 350z is a pain to drive, it really does wear you out, compared to the rx8, where i have to agree with jeremy clarkson, it is the easiest car to drive fast.

I really think 1st de needs to try both out, and decide which he likes better. I think the rx8 is much better, that is why when my father and i sat down, and decided which car to purchase, we both decided on the rx8. This is the car he currently owns, and is inlove with. I am as well.

also, the 2nd row, is comfortable, and is usefull. And i feel that the interior of the 350z is lacking compared to the rx8.

Dont forget that superchargers and turbos will be out for the rx8 quite soon, although i think this is signing your deathwarrent, as the car is already too good for its own good, if you want it, it will be out soon.

and, im not sure what clarkson was talking about the car being twitchy because of the tires, the stock potenza's are very nice, and take the rain quite well, for being low profile tires.

also, mazda has a great history behind all of its products. All of the cars we have owned, the mazda line has proven time and time again, to be solid performers in all aspects. the rx8 is no different. the 350z, is great, and so is the nissan line, but again, i advise try both, then buy the mazda

also, i forgot to mention, that the rx8 is on the car and driver top 10 list, the 350 z is not

Ive driven my friend's 350Z, I don't see how it wears you out. Well except the fact that your head is constantly being thrown into the seat everytime you push the pedal to the floor. The shifts were very short and smooth. Stopping and gripping the road was no problem with the big tires and brakes. I wish I had one, but the old Datsun will have to do.

True, it does lack a back seat, but Ive been inside an RX8 at the Mazda dealership, I don't think it gives you much room back there, unless your a kid, or a midget.

Superchargers are already out for the 350Z, and yes, they kick butt. 350HP 350Z, that with like 3lbs of boost.

Yes, Ive seen great RX7's. But they have been reduced to bodys on wheels because of seals. I don't know if the Renesis engine has fixed the main problem, but give your wankel past 100,000 miles and BOOM! Bad seals, either oil, cooling or compression seals, lots of $$$$ to replace. Wankels are not that all reliable compared to the old piston and cylinder, especially if you dog them. Even the baby'ed ones get to 200,000 and blow, compared to my old Datsun that has 345,000 on the engine, just had regular maintence according to the previous owner, and it still runs(not great, the side draft carbs are in a desperate need of a rebuild but at least it hasn't blown up). Then there is the corolla down the street from 84, that has a whopping 467,000 miles on it and it still runs!
                .
Also, if I remember, car and driver put the 350Z on the top ten when the Z came out, and then the Infinity G35 coupe(the luxury version of the 350Z) been on there for two years now. So lets see...4 years running on the same platform?

Why don't you just get a crappy econocar UNTIL the '05 Stang with rag top comes out? Sure it will be 2 years of agonizing 4 banging torture but it will make the Mustang experience with the top down all that more enjoyable

well,im about 265 and 6 foot, so i dont think i qualify as a kid or a midget. The 350z is just not enjoyable to drive, the "sporty suspension" or rather, lack there of, is rather uncomfortable to ride on, where as the rx8 keeps things extremely tight, while providing an extremely comfortable ride. Also, the wankle engine doesnt really go bad, unless you f with it. The renisis has solved all of the "main problems" and the only worry that has come up, has been flooded engines, by fools who dont make absolutely sure that they are in reverse, and not 6th gear when trying to reverse.

also, you cannot deny that the rx8 handles better, the small, compactness of the wankle, located behind the front axel, and the absolute lightness of the whole car, makes it extremely easy to drive.

PLUS!!!! you get to say wankle and thats just cool

not to mention, that as the film above has stated, and i can attest to it,that the rxs is extremely smoothe, and it will throw you back into your seat. and one other fact that we found yesterday, is that, EXIT RAMPS ROCK! there is nothing cooler than going into a big exit ramp, and powering through the turn, and having your body go almost horizontal as you fight the g forces.

Scott, im sorry to have turned your thread into this car is better than that car thread, because the truth is they are both amazing machines, and i beg you to try driving both.

also, dont forget, if there is any sort of buyer loyalty playing a factor, mazda is owned by the ford motor company...

ALSO!! dont get me started on the i35, because those have to be the biggest waste of weight that they call back seats. for the person in the front to sit with any amount of comfort, the seat back almost touches the front of the back seat. They should have saved the weight, and just left the seats out.

another thing to consider, is how many 350z's do you see on the roads? TONS! when buying a new car, i like to look at something that, isnt quite as common, something that makes people turn heads, and i noticed with in the first week of our family owning this car, that everyone on the road sortof, takes a moment to watch it roll past. and the comments in the parkinglot, never seem to stop.

now if you want reliability? go with what i drive, a good ol 83 mercedes 240 diesel 350k miles, and still running her lil heart out god i love this car, it was the best first car any one could ask for

                      No Problem Bill.

We are going out tomorrow. 350Z and Z3 are off the list as I need a back seat. I am going to test the Rubicon, 04 Stang, and the RX8.

BTW I am not a ricer, so at most I am going to swap the headers, exhaust, and rear end on the Stang if I get it.

05 GT is coming out in April, not September, I believe.

You should still wait if you can, theres a pretty large difference in HP between the 04 and 05 GT.

What about a new Acura 3.2 TL? I have a 2001 TL and it handles and performs very nicely. The new ones have more features than you can shake a stick at, plus they are very comfortable. The new ones have a very sporty feel to them. Granted, they aren't going to perform quite like the RX8, but it's always worth a test drive. I love these cars and I think they are some of the msot fun cars i have driven. I almost like my TL as much as i like my '95 Legend
