I dont know much about that, but it was probably from the lyrics Robert Plant added in live performances, kinda like improv. guitar solos. I dont even know if its true though because i cant find a live copy of the song from '76

How is Stairway about using heroin I dont recall any references to drugs in the song...just about a woman choosing between heaven and hell. I mean, this song is more religious than Christian Rock http://sunsetwestproductions.com/forever/stairway.htm Read that, good meaning behind the lyrics.
