    Bleh, grades.

Well, I got my report card back and was a little bit afraid to look at it because I was worried about getting a B or lower in Spanish (I sort of BSed my way through the test, no studying, etc.). So, I open it up and what do I find? A's in all classes, except? Math. What the hell? It's one of my better subjects, though I had it solid. Apparently the teacher isn't good to his word, here's the story:

My friend Jason and I were in an excellerated math program since 6th grade, eventually ending with us taking Algebra I in 8th, rather than 9th (9th Algebra I, 10th Geometry, 11th Algebra II, 12th Pre-calc). So, we're ahead on the track, but the class above us (sohp when we were fresh, etc.) is full of idiots ( we were with them for 9th in Geometry, the teacher ended up leaving the school because of them), therefore we decided to stick with our class this last year. This means that we're the only two people in the class taking Algebra II while the rest are in Geometry; the teacher helped us when we needed it, but it was basically a self run class, no homework, etc. Because of this we hash out a deal with the teacher that we'd just take tests on each chapter, 12 in all for our grades, rather than quizes, tests, and regular assignments. Well, throughout the year we made deals with him, ie "tutoring" some of the students who wanted to jump up to Algebra II if they needed the help, in order for us to only have to take six of these tests. So, finally, we take the tests, etc., etc., but here's the thing; we both ended up with Bs, whereas the teacher assured us we had A's rather than giving us progress reports (In our school they give a weekly "progress update" which tells us our overall grade and grades broken down by assignment).

My question is (as I'm trying to get my grade changed to an A) should it be changed? The teacher gave me assurance that I had the grade instead of an actual report; he knows I am a very motivated student and want / need the A's for the school I'm looking at, therefore if I had a B he knows I would do whatever needed to fix that; and I go to a very small school so it's not like this thing can fall through the cracks or anything, I mean people were witness to him telling me my grade.

Anyway, I'm just bored waiting for people to call me back and wondering what your input is. Sorry if this is hard to read, I just got back from a run and am multitasking at the moment.

Maybe your teacher had just cause for your grade, maybe he bumps the grade for participation or something, who knows. You may just need to sit down with him and talk to him and why your grade slipped down, or why it was mistakenly placed. I never say my teacher put in my grades wrong or made a mistake or whatever because I have learned that arguing with teachers is completely useless.

It sounds like you go to a private school, yes? If you do, I would assume that you and/or your folks can get more interaction and whatnot with your teachers and principal and stuff. So just go talk to them, it sounds like you really want that A, so just see whats up.

I know I was surprised with my grades this year, they were a lot higher than I had assumed. 3 As, 2 Bs, 1 C(in math... )

Except this was in the last week or so of school when I was done with all tests, etc. Also, he doesn't have participation, unless he threw it in at the end of the year just to screw me over.

I go to a charter school and he left for a large private school (a lot of the students are fairly disenchanting for teachers at mine).

First thing you do is call your teacher and ask him to explain what lead to the lower grades. If you are not satisfied with his response, you need to arrange an appointment between him, you, your parents and your guidence councilor to appeal the grade. That threat alone may make him reconsider. Do your parents support this override attempt?

Also will he ever teach you again at that school? If so, be careful as their may be repercussions and reprosals from him later.*Edit I did not see he left!*

Finally was this considered an honors course for you? If so does your school add the extra point to you GPA for honors classes? If so, this B will not affect your GPA as the weighted B would equal a normal A.

                      Good luck!

man im a year ahead in math and i didnt get any deals like that in algebra II, oh well i didnt do my homework anyway

but i would just say talk with the teacher and so on, dont make a huge thing about it at first incase he may have made a mistake in writing the grade, etc (alot of my teachers do that because they dont know how to use computers...)
