'05 Toyota Cuts Celica and MR2

Well after a long time the Celica finally is being retired with the MR2. Just wanted to put that out there for any who cared on AO.

I owned a Celica years ago. Probably the toughest car I have ever owned. I delivered pizza's in it , drove it back and forth to Florida a million times....

When I got rid of it the odometer has well in excess of 400,000 miles on it , and the speedo was broken for about 2 years...and it still ran pretty good. Totally original motor and drivetrain.

Hate to see them retired after so long.

for awhile i was completely into celicas and planning on getting one and probably ricing it out. I've since given up on the whole import scene.I think i should change my s/n now, I dunno to what though.

hmm...that's a shame, but i'm not nearly as sad as I was when camaro's retired I'm still grieving. those MR2's are very fun though, like little go karts! i'm eager to see what toyota plan to replace them with.

The new gen Celica is just... gay. The 2zzge motor isn't bad but overall, the car is just... meh a girl car. MR-2s are just very nice cars. It was just unfortunate for them to be so damn expensive. and its MR layout is just sorta hard to work with anways but understeer is nearly non exhistant to it.

BTW, the Scion tC has replaced the Celica. Entry level sports coupe.

Celicas are deff. rice, I'll agree with you on that.

But the MR-S is deff. not rice at all man. Mid engine Rear wheel drive Two seater, and a joy to drive.

Celica has been replaced by the Scion Tc as some one else said. They were fun, but kind of a girls car. A friend of mine had a supercharged GTS, it was truly sweet. The engine blew when the timing belt snapped cause a toyota mechanic screwed up. They replaced his engine for free, but he decided to leave the supercharger off because the lease was almost up. As for the MR2, it suffered from the same fate as the Supra. Both became so expensive it hurt sales. The MR2 is up to the high 20s low 30s if I recall. Way too much for a four banger. The Supra was up to almost 50s when it got cut.

The new craze is bigger 'cars' (SUVs, vans, etc.) Makes me sick, SUVs and or Hummers disgust me to no end.

thank god the celica has died... maybe ill see less rice and rice wannabes. the mr2 was only good when it was the gt-four model- which had to be late 90's- nice sized mid-mounted v4, and four wheel drive. now the image of the affordable, yet cool pocket rocket has been bastardized into a little booger today. death was inevitable.
