There was a pre Mustang pony car from Ford but it was a really hopped up one year only (i think) but I cannot recall what it was called. ? There are very few of them. I think it had a 302 in it or something along those lines. Need to see if I can find something on them.

Mustang I concept was mid engine and had a 2.0L I4 looking to attack the Triumph's share of the market. It got trashed due to interest from enthusiasts but not from the general public.

Mustang II inspired alot for the 1964 production line Mustang which came with three options for a engine: a 170ci slant 6, 260ci V8, and a 289ci.

          .

Well seeing as how I only need to fit a 7 and a 4 year old in the back seat I should be fine. If I put any ladies back there, their complaining would be the least of my worries! My wife would remove any offending body part!

Wasn't the Mustang built off of the Ford Falcon frame? They also lifted the engine from it for the Mustang!

ok this has been coming the whole thread and I'm finally in a mood to say it

Shartley, why don't you drive that dang bucket off a clift. Next time buy a real muscle car and stop trying to convince us to make you're self feel better.

"While the public first saw the car on April 17, the first production models rolled off the assembly line in early March since dealers needed to stock showrooms to capitalize on the upcoming national reveal. The vehicle identification number (VIN) for the first-ever Mustang was 5F08F100001, a Wimbledon White convertible with the 260 cubic-inch V-8. Shortly after it rolled off the assembly line, that car went on a Canadian publicity tour that took it to George Parson's Ford dealership in St. Johns, Newfoundland. "

260 ci v-8 in march of 1964 - off the ford website, but I've seen a 260 at a car show and asked the guy.

No, that's the '81 Z28 he was talking about.
I'll go out on a limb and assume the '68 SS 454 he was talking about is a Chevelle, but it's not pictured. Yeah, I'd never rely on a Japanese car either... unless I wanted something that would start every time I turned the key! That was kind of a silly comment. I'll betcha my Mom's car would own your Z28, and keep in mind here that I'm a Chevy guy, but her WRX STi would smoke my '66 Goat in a heartbeat (on unleaded pump gas anyway), as well as a lot of my past muscle cars. Ain't technology wonderfull? No matter how fast they get though, I'll take a big ol' 4 BBL V-8 over a turbocharged 4 anyday! Gotta love that rumble!

Actually, what is known as the Mustang II came out in 74 (I think it was). This was the car that was a glorified Pinto. This is also the car that most kit cars use the front end from. And, this is also the car I am looking to put my '69 429 ThunderJet in

I don't play your PM games, anything you PM me is going to get posted in some form or another. You asked to get ridiculed and you got it end of story. I don't need to fight with anyone you just "needed" to be shut up. But that obviously didn't work now did it?... now run along and play....

LOL Well when you have a whole paintball team as a family, you need something to get them around in.

But who knows, maybe we can get together for a Mustang ride sometime. There are plenty of good clubs on the East Coast and they often do runs. It is nice being around other actual Mustang owners, and ones that enjoy the cars no matter what year or package they have.
