I was thinkin'. maybe a Half-Life Movie would be a good idea, but not have the story line like the video games. Have a totally different story line. What do you guys think? Would you pay to see it?
Half-Life Movie? Good idea?

Half-Life Movie? Good idea?

Isn't the game kinda like that one zombie game, I forgot what it was called. But they made a movie out of it too. It was pretty crappy. If the movie didn't follow the HL story, than what would the story be, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of making an HL movie?
I do know the AO sig rules, I just want a free sig pic, that's all!

Why change the story line? It's good enough already.
Experiment goes wrong... possible government involvement... scientists are fooled, trapped, and executed... soldiers come in to wipe out the resisting scientist... aliens, soldiers, and scientist (gordon) all kicking the crap out of eachother.
Sounds good to me

It did well, sure...but it wasn't that good. Decent, but not great.
In any case, the answer is no. More often than not, good games are defiled by movies based on them. Usually works both ways actually...Comment

Most games could be made into decent movies, but it doesn't happen very often because of bad directors or bad actors, and usually both. They always rely too heavily upon special effects and action scenes and not enough on character development and plot. Resident Evil came out pretty well though I thought, and I'll probably go see the sequel.
Golden Rule: Bad/unknown actors=Bad movie. Half of movies' success depends on the hype created before it comes out and if the actors are known and good.War is peace

the rights to a half life movie were bought up a while ago, but most people dont do anything with the rights but sell them later if someone wants to make one.
and double dragon was a good movie if i recall wasnt it?
i think that metal gear solid would make a good movie, after all its half playing have movies sequences anyway lol, its got a good movie plot i think.Comment

They've already made movies w/ the basic half life premise... haha actually its semi similar to that "event horizon" idea. Messed w/ some antimatter style goodness, opened a portal to hell...lol. While sure, not the same thing, the general premise has been made into movies. Hell... even HOWARD THE DUCK did it..lol
I'd like to see Half Life into a movie too if done right. The story could be easily rewritten to still cover the major points of the game and just slightly modify the supporting characters. The best way to do it would be going "old skool" style and bring back just the fear of the dark. Movies now, while have amazing special effects, need to bring back the "fear of the dark" feel. Not always 20 monsters on screen, but 1 monster that could be in that shadow. Those "hear the fear in the characters breath" scenes would be awsome in this type of movie. Its a wakeup call for the Nintendo generation

There was an article in PC gamer a few years ago on this subject. I think the major problem with the game-movie transition is that they rush threw the project and try to get it in theaters while the game is still hot. If they take the time to really develope the story/plot/characters of the movie and pull out the elements that really made the game special it coulld be an exclent movie.
The expansion opposing forces might make a better premises for a half life movie just because there'd be more interaction between characters and it would really bring out the whole back-stabbing-ish-ness of the game.
