Digital Camera Help - Found the camera, but deal kinda too good

Found the camera that i've always wanted for half the price of the msrp and it's being sold for $740 at other sites... that's $240 cheaper than the lowest price i found but are they legit? I found their website and ad in a photo magazine so it seems like they are running a legit business (i got the magazine from domonicks) and they have a toll free number and costomer service numbers and everything...but this is one of those deals that is a bit too good...

Anyone wanna help me out here? I don't know what to do, i wanna buy it but i don't wanna get scammed out of $500

That is a great price, and my guess a mistake on their page. For $500 that camera is a good camera. For the $900 MSRP it is not worth it.

You should try looking for a used digital elf. My brother and I have them and love them. They aren't as small as that one but they fit in your pocket comfortably

            ITS A SCAM!!!
Just checked feedback for them and NOT ONE SINGLE POSITIVE FEEDBACK!
everyone complained about their outrageous shipping and insurance prices. missing parts, no manuals or anything. then how they never got their product.

            Time to shop somewhere else

I doubt it's a scam. But the might just be a bad company.

They have some VERY shady prices on that site. A Canon 10D for $789??!?!? no way

BTW: that F828 has a terrible purple fringing problem. I would get the Canon Pro1 instead.

purple fringe? where did that come from? my 828 works great! and I would never go back to a fixed position lense again!

as far as teh price on teh website - sounds too good to be true. the new replacement isn't out yet (that I am aware of) and so the price anywhere is going to be nearly retail, though smoe drops are available here and there.

                      As evidenced here:

                      and here:
Tech Talk - Discuss PC Hardware, Software, Internet and Other Technology

oh and they found it here too:

                      http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscf828/

The reason they attributed it was to the 8 megapixel sensor not being a true 8 megapixels but rather a lesser sensor being pushed to the limit. I was going to get that camera myself but after seeing that, no way in heck. Canon Pro1 blows it away.

Let this entire image load, then look at the metal pipes. HORRIBLE.
You want to pay $800+ for THAT?

This one makes me laugh, let it load and look at the lights. LOL!

not had that happen to me at all. I can make weird colors on any digital cam if I don't use the manual settings correctly.

That's a good example of chromatic aberrations. You can't create that on a camera/lens by playing with the settings. At least the camera does support CF media, that's not common with Sony.

I have a Canon A80 and love it. If my next digital is a P&S style (and not a DSLR) I'll prob go for the Pro1.

SS that's a very common camera gear scam. They print/post a crazy low price, then charge you huge ammounts for shipping&handeling. If you are lucky the package will include such things as the normal accessories that are included. Usually not tho. They charge extra for the normal things that are usually included.

If you want to buy online check B&H Photo and Adorama. Both have good prices and very good customer service.

right the inability to focus specific color wave lengths at teh same plane or point of focus. but I disagree that you can't create it with the manual settings. Overexposure, especially with very contrasty view. crank the fstop, and over-wide-angle (edgs of teh picture would be worse).

CA happens with all digital cameras at one extent or another.

Sony cameras, are IMHO junk. Bad optics. Bad quality control. Just plain bad. That company, all it's branches, have left a many a sour taste in my mouth.

Not to be an ***, but have you really looked around?

If you are going to spend that kind of money, look at some low level D-SLRs. Low level compared to other D-SLR's, but not to point and shoots.

D-SLR optics are almost ALWAYS better. Unless you go and get some $30 lens from somewhere in Europe. You can also purchase new lenses in the future. There are two that I can seriously reccomend.

The Canon Digital Rebel. Multiple kits available. From around
http://calumetphoto.com/ctl?ac.ui.pn...=rebel&x=0&y=9 Just look at the REBEL DIGITal

For $1300 the Nikon D70 w/ a 18-70mm DX Lens 1.5x(?) Crop factor(AKA multplier, and whatever the "cool" term is for this week )

Save the extra money. If you are looking at a $900 camera, wait and save. IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

The Fuji Finepix S2 PRo(I think thats the model)will probably lower in price when the new S3 comes out in October. Also a D-SLR.

Another note: Do NOT let megapixels fool you.

                              A Sony 8mp camera vs. a Nikon D70.

The D70 will destroy the Sony in image quality.

Therea are many threads on this topic. Just do a search. Heres a guide I made. I really should add some stuff. Recently I was at a digital worflow workshop. Rather interesting. I will revamp it with my new notes. Sorry if it's long. Shoot me a PM if needed.
