Jeweled bolt with an unbelievable stock. I can't really find any info on it. I picked it up with a couple others. I went to a gun show where someone was selling a couple of them which were all in the $3-5,000 range. I don't think mine was as nice as those but close. He wanted me to bring it in but I didn't get any info from him like history or anything. I will post a pic in a while hopefully. Just curious if anyone knows anything.
I've seen those 30-06 K98s go as low as $200 for a very nice looking gun and you'e saying you've seen them as high as 5k. You probably need a real Mauser expert to tell you exactly what you have.

My father had somthing similar. A very nice looking antique .22 that his father gave him when he was younger. Through a series of divorces now my ex-step-grandfather has it which annoys the heck out of me. My Grandfather owned some very nice guns which are all gone now unfortunatly.

I'm looking for a German made/issued k98 that's not a Russian rework, an MKI No.4, an M1 Garand, and a Winchester 1873 in useable condition, or at least good enough that it could be fired again. The only new gun I want is the Smith and Wesson .500 but it's not worth the $1,000 for somthing I would probably fire once then let sit.

I work for a company that sold CNC machines to Smith and Wesson.

So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies. Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

        But trust me.... You don't.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you don't know what you are talking about. This is how bad info gets passed around. If you don't know about the topic....Don't make yourself sound like you do.

Cuz some people will believe anything they read.

Not sure if that was pointed at me for saying I wanted that 500?
I don't beleive I ever said I was an expert or anything close to it on anything. I've never fired that Smith and Wesson, nor do I know anyone who I has, I havn't read anything about it either. I know it's pretty impractical for use in just about anything. I want it because I'm just amused by the size of the thing.

Yeah mate, thinkin about possibly gettin' back in to it. This time it will be mech only, scenario style play. I'm tired of all the little AGG kiddies, the reason I left the game in the first place (annoying little craps).

@Pyro: Uhhhh, didn't buy the gun due to any reason relating to CS, lol.

I've been wanting to get back into it to mainly for rec and scenerio's. Perhaps well meet up, its been too long.

I'll try to answer this so we don't see this question any longer seeing as I live in Virginia. I once asked a game warden about putting a scope on a muzzleloader and got the answer. During Muzzleloading season you cannot have one on there in Virginia. The reason being is that the first season we get is Archery season for big game (dear.. etc) which starts tomorrow I believe. That's in their mind the hardest form of hunting because it has the least range and requires the most skill to stay stealth and call the deer in close enough to get a kill shot with an arrow. With the announcement that crossbows were now legal to use within the past couple of years, I'm not so sure I agree with that.. I see too many with crossbows and scopes which have a good accuracy and distance, but that's just my rant.

Then we get muzzleloading season which is 2 to 3 weeks (i believe) before rifle season. Just like archery, they want to keep this a skilled type of hunting where you only get one shot and have to know how to use a muzzleloader. With the new muzzleloading bullets and technology, I shot 3 rounds the other day at the range with a scope and at 100 yards my bullets had 2 touching and one less than a half inch a way. The technology has come a long way, and it is almost as easy to kill a deer with a scoped muzzleloader as with a rifle. Honestly, who shoots more than once with a rifle?? I know some do, but I have a bolt action rifle and for me it's a one shot deal, because that's all it takes. The only thing a scoped muzzleloader might be lacking versus my .308 rifle is accuracy at longer distances, but who is trying to take 400 yard shots in Virginia anyways??

I know a lot of muzzleloaders who do use shotgun primers because they don't think they'll get caught, and I know some still use the scopes. What the game warden told me is that DURING RIFLE SEASON, you can put a scope on a muzzleloader if you still want to use it. That makes sense, but more and more I'm not happy about the whole muzzleloader situation. My father in law owns a bunch of land which I hunt on and last year people got on his land and went out in the early muzzleloading season. When we drove through one of the corn fields we found 5 dead dear that had not been tracked... and it was way too late to get any meat.. already picked and decayed. There was an 8 point, a 4 point, a spike, a button and a big doe. None of which had been tracked.. shot badly by idiots with a muzzleloader then not pursued. I'm sure if they had their semi-auto rifle they woudl have shot until it dropped, but decided not to track it since they only had one shot and it didn't fall... that crap pisses me off.

Your basic Marlin 336. Nothing expensive or fancy. For some reason I've always liked lever guns. My only complaint is that it costs about a dollar every time I pull the trigger. I knew 30-30 round wern't cheap before I bought it though so I can't really complain too much. I saw a guy at the range yesterday with a marlin similar to yours, but with the brushed steel color and his shot a 45-70, which is more expensive (and more paintful to shoot) than those 30-30's. I acutally started with a lever action 30-30 myself, so I feel your pain. Those marlins are nice looking guns though. As for the ruger 10-22, definitely do it. I wouldn't hold back, those are some of the most fun rifles you can buy, and I am always seeing them around here in the $160 range on sale... can't beat that for the fun you'll have with it. I have a .22 pistol that I shoot more than any of my others.. it's just fun and cheap. Anyways, best of luck to all during this hunting season!

*** Time for a few corrections to my above post ***

One of my buddies told me that this year scopes were permitted on muzzleloaders during the hunting season and that any primer or flint method is permitted. That means that shotgun primerse and scopes are now permitted. Upon checking the VA website it appears this is true.. I was wondering why I saw so many people using shotgun primers when sighting in their muzzleloaders this year. Anyways, here's the rules... no more statements about not using shotgun primers and it specifically states that scopes are permitted:
