Remington 870 Express or Benelli Nova

Went dove hunting for the first time last week and had a blast. Shot a 12 gauge pump, 12 gauge single shot & 20 gauge single shot. Now I am hooked and want my own shotgun. Looking into Remington 870 Express or Benelli Nova(12 gauge). What are your opinions of these shotguns. If you have used anything else in the same price range and had a good experience please do write about it. Leaning towards the Benelli since it comes with 3 choke tubes.

I would think the only real comparison between the two would be cost.

The quality of both is exceptional, I use the Remmington 1100 myself, its 25 years old now, and still goes through 5-6 boxes of pigeons each, pheasont season and the multitude of rabbits in the winter...I would dare try to count how many rounds have gone through it..

I've heard good things about both, I've owned a lot of Rem's over the years, either choice you make, get the one thats feels best to you...

I own both a Nova and an 870. I prefer the nova with a 28" for my tramp, just because it seems to have a smoother operation, but booth are extremely simular and great guns

The 870 has tons more after market accessories and cheap too... for practicality its the choice. Its very versitle and certainly Beneli is a sweet gun but that puts it over the top for me is the choices of barrels, stocks, tubes etc for the 870. Great gun too. I own a Wingmaster. Had it for over 30 years. Thats the precursor to the express I think. Great gun. I have a slug barrel for it and a Modified Choke barrel. I am thinking of getting the Riot gun conversion stuff for this thing. For home defense uses of course.

AGD, where we are so good we can do it with only ONE tube!

My 870 has been to hell and back (mud, water, you name it) and still works fine!
I would say the 870 just because I have had such good luck with it.

Well, I can't really comment on the Nova, but I loved my 870, and you all seem to as well. It was a decent step up from the Winchester I had. I recently sold it when I bought my 1100 (which freakin' rocks btw!) Unless you're completely set on a pump, I'd look into one of those as well.

A couple shotguns I'd like to try in the near future include the Remington SP-10 Magnum, and some sort of exposed hammer side-by-side "coach gun".

I love my 870 Express, and I would recomend getting the combo. I picked it up brand new at Dicks Sporting Goods for $369, comes with the 26" Smooth bore barrel for your clays and feathered friends, and also a 20" rifled for your deer slugs. It seriously takes me 8 seconds to switch barrels, on and off. Good luck with your soon to be shotgun, be safe

I personally carry a Mossberg 20ga. Works well for me, but the 870 shoots nice. One gun I love to shoot it my grandpa's old 1920's (I think) 12ga Long Tom. Double the barrels, double the fun. LOL

I would go with the 870.
My brother has 1 and never had a problem with it. I have a 1100 and love it.

I have both an 870 and a Nova and i personally like my nova better. They are both very durable guns, but i like the feel of the nova better. They are very close to the same quality so i would recommend trying out each of them first. Atleast go to your sporting goods store and hold each one to see how they feel.

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

I run the paintball section in a bait and tackle shop and know nothing about guns. But i know we must sell atleast 5 benellis a day.

Props to echo419 for the sig

Well, I wouldn't use other people's purchases as too much of a guide. I'm sure Walmart sells at least 5 BEs a day, but that sure doesn't make them superior - only more available and a little cheaper...
