Aha! So he really did post this. For those of you who are griping about me wearing a welding helmet, let me explain, as one of the more intelligent members here pointed out, I have the dark lens up, with the clear plastic as my shield. I didn't have my safety goggles near by, and the mask does just as good. Ever get a piece of hot metal in your eye?

This was not posed I didn't know he was sneaking around with the blasted camera and was grinding away, minding my own business.

many times the 2 lenses are one in the same... my friends and i do a lot of fab. on our 4 wheel drive projects so we have decent to high quality welding shieldsl... there is like a light-sensing diode in the mask right next to the lense... when you hit the spark it tints the lense to dark almost instantaneously... way faster than you can tell, and you dont have to flip a switch or flip your hood.....

and yeah.... you dont grind with a welding mask... but sometimes you have to if you're welding thick stuff cause you have to clean out slag and wrinkles to get strong welds... enough welding talk.. nice gal...

After welding something, sometimes you use an angle grinder to adjust the weld/grind off the excess bead/make your weld look nicer .

All I have to ask then is why are you grinding your work on the back of a tailgate? Maybe you don't like that truck or it's already a piece of junk, but shooting the sparks into it isn't that good for it and if you slip on your work piece, I'm sure your tailgate isn't going to like that.
