This is gonna sound dumb but when I got mine out my parents told me to bite down on tea bags where the stitches were. It actually really helped the pain and the bleeding. Maybe you guys shoudl try that instead of the drugs cuz I didnt get drugs after.

That sucks.Originally posted by Derman2kI didnt get drugs after.
When I got my root canal I took some Tylenol 3(codeine) when I got home, layed down on my bed woke up about 4 hrs later and just had a dull ache. The best part was I didn't have to feel the novocaine weaing off and the pain coming in. I hate that tingling feeling.
On a side note, do you guys still get Nitrous Oxide? My dentist dosn't use it

I had mine out last year, since it was either remove them, or get root canals. ($300 to pull vs. $1800 for root canals and crowns, plus weeks of visiting, and hours of a guy's hand in my mouth.)Originally posted by Derman2kThis is gonna sound dumb but when I got mine out my parents told me to bite down on tea bags where the stitches were. I had the right side pulled under local. It went from a simple pulling, to a "geez, we gotta cut some gum away" to "Hand me that extracting bar" to the dentist bracing his foot on the chair and pulling.
All I got was some Vioxx to keep the swelling down, and was told to keep biting on tea bags. I had to drive myself home too. I didn't even get icecream.
The biggest pain in the next week was the upper tooth's roots were close to my sinuses, and causes alot of dull pain under my eye.
At my cleaning last month, I asked my dentist when would be a good time to get the other side removed. I am no forbidden from talking about tooth extraction with him.

Tea contains tannic acid. Its good for burns, I didn't know it worked on other injuries as well.
If you ever burn yourself, teabags or iced tea can help it feel better. I slipped with a soldering iron once and had a nice burn up my finger, and teabags helped immensely.

My dentist explained that the soft teabags provide an even pressure, when bit. And they help the taste of blood taste less, er, bloody.Originally posted by ThordicTea contains tannic acid. Its good for burns, I didn't know it worked on other injuries as well.
So no real stuff in tea that helps, just a good way to provide pressure to the wounds.Shaun Nelson --- old, fat, slow.... did I mention lazy? I ate all the pies

Vioxx is an awesome anti-inflamitory drug. Great for a lot of dental pain, since most of it is pain from swelling and pressure on nerves. It doesn't numb the pain as it stops the cause of the pain. Far beter than being looped on painkillers when you're an hourly consultant.Originally posted by WheelmanDid you develop arthrits in you jaw as a result of the extraction? I have a stockpile of the stuff now.

Tannin helps blood to clot as well.
Bizarrely I'm typing this as I'm biting down on two teabags - had two teeth out a couple of hours ago (the lower number 4's behind the eye teeth).
Trying to stop them bleeding is a nightmare - had a third tooth out last week as well.
I'm just hoping that all these extractions (plus the braces I'm getting at the weekend) don't start my widom teeth moving - they're impacted (lying along the line of the jaw) and my dentist assures me that they'll stay put cos I'm over 30.
