Ao Pilots- Who hates the weather?

The answer is I DO!!! IM getting really freekin tired of waking up in the wee hours of the morning (5:30) and walking over to the aero center to check the metars and find out that the ceiling is too low for flight, Damn Vfr conditions. For the past 2 weeks, i havnt been able to complete my cross country from KSLN(salina Kansas) to TKO(mancato kansas) the ceilings have been either too low, or visibility too low, or clouds moving in to make the ceiling too low on the return.

This is just getting old. I really cant wait to get private pilot out of the way, so that i may finally get onto the instrument stuff. get some real IFR time. Its just a bother.

Also, im sorry, but who in hell thought the E6-b was a good idea in its current form? it could be simplified in so many ways, it isnt even funny, but no, in its current stage, it is quite hard to actually get good, solid results. Yes, there are computerized e6-b's to be had, but our master CFI will not allow them to be used as a teaching tool. Try using one on your check ride, and the batterys end up loose in the cockpit. Bit of a bother isnt it?

other than that, if all goes will, il be taking good ol N815KS up and out to TKO.

btw, how many of you are comming to safecon this year? because its here at KSU, and we are showing off our brand new 172/r's with the brand new G1000 glass cockpits. Cessna is giving us the first 5 off the production line. How sweet huh? Gotta brag

I would rather have bad weather than presidential TFRs. Living in a battleground state blows.

But...I'll be flying tomorrow no matter what. Have another IFR flight to do.

And we're justting getting Alpha Eta Rho back up at Kent. I was going to join...but I keep missing the meetings.

And for the E6-B comments...after you learn how to use the damn thing (because you do need to know it), get the AOPA flight planner. Or, what I did before that program existed was enter all the forumulas in an excel spreadsheet for my planning.

                in fact...here it is:

Dunno...the weather can be a PITA, but it can work to your benefit.

I was trying to cram my IFR checkride in at the end of the semester and was having difficulty scheduling it. Turns out one day the clouds (scattered) were just low enough to rule out VFR flights...so I got my IFR checkride on a nice day with winds aloft at below 5 knots.

No crazy crabbing into the wind and all that...nice and easy.

Ok. Whats the deal with the clouds. Whenever I have flown we go above the clouds. On movies with plane disasters there is always bad weather. How can there be bad weather above the clouds. Or do they sometimes fly below clouds.

Bad weather can go pretty high. While enroute on an airline though you probably will skirt about any clouds at all, for the sake of passenger comfort (and relatively little weather makes it above 30,000ft, so it usually isn't impossible to dodge). For takeoff and landing...you obviously have to fly lower.

But what they were talking about is the weather as it effects small aircraft, which generally fly under 10,000 feet. Obviously you can fly above some clouds (see my sig), but that usually involves flying through them, which you can't do under visual flight rules.

Well, another day down another day lost. Got up at 530 and walked over to the aero center to start planning, as our projected take off was at 7 am CST. everything is going fine, until 645, when clouds start to roll in for absolutely no reason. they werent projected to come in for another 4 hours, which would have given me plenty of time to fly to mancato and back, which was all in all an hour and 20 mins worth of flying.

So, after walking over, freezing my balls off in the 0*c weather, sitting there for an hour and planning and doubble checking, we call the FSS station and low and behold, theres the FN clouds. Just great. so now, im postponed until sunday, which means once again, going over, sitting and planning. i could freekin walk the whole thing by now if i wanted to, ive planned it so many god damned times, it isnt even funny any more.

Restola, on the Alpha Ehta Rho front, i reccomend that you do join, as the connections in the industry are endless, and im sure you know that this industry is all about who you know, and what they can do for you. It is alot of fun as well, not your typical TOGA TOGA TOGA frat.

Btw, you still have all avoided the big question, who is attending safecon this spring? if y'all make it out, me and some of my KSU buds want to take ya guys ballin. Ntn and restola specifically
