Technically possession of alcohol by minors is illegal as well.

I'm certainly not going to be the killjoy that has to bring it up in a nice post about homebrew. Especially with sad name calling and accusations of bragging.

Depends somewhat on the state and some circumstances....

Here in SC its not illegal for a Parent to funish Alcohol to his minor children. So one could say that it was somewhat covered if that Parent allowed his minor in his household to make it and consume it there.

However that being said it does not let that parent out of repsonsibilty from what might happen. So if civil liability and even criminal liability are never given up. Things like Disturbing the peace and contributing to the delinquency and Contributory Negligence could still come up if that minor was to do something illegal while under the influence or even giving/selling that alcohol to others.

So depending on where it is and what the law is and under some circumstances it could be legal for him to have it

I recall when I was 18 it was legal. It was changed from 21 to 18 like in 1973 and came into effect most places in 1974. Then later it was changed back to 21....

the reason the drinking age is 21 is cuz of stupid people. There was a appropriation added to a highway support bill that said "if you want to get any federal funding for your highways, you MUST make your state drinking age 21". That sucks.

thats a perfect example of Federal Government blackmailing states to influence state law. Big brother is alive and well. Same thing was done to lower the DUI standards. Making "impairment" limit be .08.

The logic used way back then to lower the drinking age to 18 was that if you were old enough to serve in the Military, you were old enough to be responsible adults. Remember that this was near the end of the Vietnam war.
