I followed the case a little. I thought there was a lot of circumstantial evidence, but from what I saw, no hard evidence. Not saying he didn't do it but. . . .
And I think there is a strong case for overturn on appeal because of the jury shennanigans. Will definitely be interesting to follow - especially out there
One other thing: I thought it was disgusting how people gathered outside the courthouse and cheered. There are no winners here gentlemen (and women)BrockSampson "I see dead people..."

Oh yes there is a winner. Society. A murderer is going to jail, or going to die. Thats always a good thing. I mean, would you rather he got off, a'la OJ?Originally posted by slatemanI followed the case a little. I thought there was a lot of circumstantial evidence, but from what I saw, no hard evidence. BTW, circumstantial cases exist because we don't want murderers getting off due to the lack of a body, murder weapon, or direct witness. Circumstantial evidence, when looked at as a whole, BECOMES hard evidence.Comment

So, you'd rather society DIDN'T care about a murderer getting what he deserves? Sure, the attention is a bit overboard, but I'd rather have people caring too much than not caring at all.Originally posted by -=Squid=-Why does anyone actually care?Comment

Sure, it matters as an incident such as this could someday directly affect me...
BUT
I don't understand why, A) It has been aired as a number one story for days, and B) The whole country is so concerned about something that doesn't directly affect them.
People would really have less to complain about if they worried about their own problems, and focused on the things that affect themselves and those immediately around them.
(And I would have thought you would use the term 'murderer' a little less loosely, as honestly, no matter how much evidence is there, you don't REALLY know)Comment

There was an incident a number of years back, I believe in New York. A woman was being killed in the street. Lots of people heard her screams, yet no one did anything to help her. They didn't want to get involved, since it didn't affect them. Thats not the type of society I want to live in. I want people to seek justice against those who would kill others. I want people to care about the law, and to care about the well being of their fellow citizens.Comment

Thing is... I would hardly consider them my fellow citizens, considering they are clear across the country, and I won't ever meet them. Ever.Originally posted by SteelratI know cops in Modesto. Trust me, he did it. Not everything makes it on TV.

The point is... It's hardly my business. It's hardly anybodies business aside from those whom it affects.
Random note: If you and Mango combined into one person, I would crap my pants in awe every time I looked at you/him/whatever.Comment

Maybe its just me. If someone gets killed in Maine, and I hear about it, I want their killer to be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I think this world could use a little more concern for our fellow man, and not just the person you know, but the person you will never meet.Originally posted by -=Squid=-Thing is... As for Mango, in the end, he got exactly what he wanted. A lot of excitement in friendly corner. Long live Mango

For the people who don't care about this case then go to a different thread. Really, this is like the 3rd thread in 10 minutes that I have seen with people saying they don't care about the topic. Why go into a topic and comment if you don't care.
Anyway back to the thread. I beleive the chances of peterson being guilty outweigh the chances of him beeing innocent. What worries me is how easily someone can be convicted of a crime. They don't even know how lacy died. How can you convict someone of murder when you don't even know how the person died. There was absolutely no hard evidence in this case. All of it was circumstantial. That worries me. What if I or someone I know is accused of something like this. We could be convicted with absolutly no solid evidence.

Duh... To inform others of your opinion.Comment
Again, if circumstantial cases didn't exist, it would be too easy for the smart criminals to "get away with it." If you get enough circumstantial evidence, it becomes hard evidence. And trust me, it was not "easy" to convict Peterson. That was a hard-fought case.Originally posted by Chris42050For the people who don't care about this case then go to a different thread.
