ACT is actually quite a bit harder when it comes to Lit though. That being said, I did a LOT better on ACTs than SATs (32 and 1300 respectively).Originally posted by mcdkidclass of 07 here.... hey, there is always the ACT test, which is better for people bad at math(me).

...lets just say i scored higher in the 7th grade (some kids were selected for a test), i get avererage grades, B's and C's(well, going up now, gotta get em up for aplications), but i KILL the SAT every time i take it i would guess 1060 is about average, not great, but, not bad per say. The essay is gonna blow, but, i have researched, and some colleges arnt even gonna count it for the first year (they will just go by verbal and math) but, whatever, dont worry about writing a good essay, it can be the crappiest BS paper ever, but, put it in the right form (you should know the form, if not, go to english teacher after school and ask for help)Comment

Oh ya I fogot to mention, I know my verbal score should be higher because I got confused and thought I finished a part of a test and there were actually like 15 more problems. I guess the points I didn't get are just for being an idiot. You smell like dookie... No really though.Comment

assuming your grades are average or above and you made a half decent essay...you WILL get into UNC or NCSU. I got into both of those with a 1400 and 3.7GPA...ended up going to Duke though. 'Grats on getting into UNCC thoughOriginally posted by octane2079WHoever said they stress the ACT more I think it is more a regional thing because in NC most of my colleges only seem to care about my SAT scores. My 1420 got me into UNC charlotte in a week, but I am still waiting for chapel hill and nc state to get back to me.Comment

06 needs to take new as well. im 06 and i took the old one, but was told that its a good reference, but the new one is almost nessissary.Originally posted by nt2004ha...i'm 2006
Doesnt really matter here anyways, they stress the ACT a bit more
as long as you can write decently, and compose with partial common sense, youll do fine on the essay
i got 570 eng. 580 math. first try sat

I got 1300 on SATs and 28 on ACTs. It all just depends on where you want to go and what your gpa is. My gpa was ok, 3.4 with no honors or AP classes. I got into Cal Poly SLO in the engineering department, which is not a bad engineering school. It all depends on where your shooting for. Shoot high but have some schools you can always fall back on just in case.Comment

that was me and you are right, its a regional thing. Midwestern colleges stress the ACT. Our school offers us ACT prep courses ands spends a lot of time training us for the ACT as opposed to the sat. So far i;ve taken a practice of both.Originally posted by octane2079WHoever said they stress the ACT more I think it is more a regional thing because in NC most of my colleges only seem to care about my SAT scores. Yea, midwest is all about the ACT, all you hear about is ACT in high school and quite frankly I was sick of it by about March of my Junior year. And for the original topic, 1060 is an alright score, but I scored an 1160 when I was 13... Even with a fairly average test score, you can still get into good colleges though. Make sure you keep your GPA up for your last semesters of high school (yes, colleges do look at that last semester that doesn't "matter" to some people). Write a really good entrance essay (talk to your english teacher and have them proof read it with you/brainstorm topics) and then get several reference letters from teachers who know you well to include with your application.
A friend of mine got accepted to UW-Madison(where I attend) with an ACT score of 25-26 (sadly he wasn't able to attend the university though), but that is a fairly low score considering the freshman average this year is about a 28-29. He just had good reference letters, good essay, and suitable grades.

I dont think the essays are on the SAT's yet. As far as I know the SAT's are scaled. If you were to get the same number of questions right now back in your parents day you would get 100 points lower then. Look at your colleges you are looking at. Most give a average SAT's and GPA for the freshman class and you can get a general idea what they are looking for. They dont just focus on that. I got a 1410 but my i slacked a lot in hs so my gpa was 3.4 which restricted me from getting into some top schools. Just try and take them as many times as possible because they take your best of each section and add them. So even if your overall is the same or lower if you did better on one section that is all that matters.
