Best way to get faster (Running)

After watching the Russian Legion vs. Dynasty WC Video, and watching a RL player run from the 50 to the back bunkers shooting 2 people and doing it all in about 2-3 seconds, I decided I wanted to get that fast (Or just faster.)

Now I've come to AO for some advice.

I'm 6ft 1", 180lb and am not the fastest runner, I'm switching my diet to remove all crap, drink pure water, and plan to do 3 miles within 35-40 minutes every other day I don't play paintball... maybe more...

But I'm looking for ways to become a better sprinter, for those quick 5-6 second runs it takes to get to the 50 or do run-thru's, those are what I really care about and having the endurance to be ready to play back to back games almost constantly.

Just looking for more ways to train to add onto the stuff I'm already doing. I planned to do this about a month ago, did it for about a week, then started eating more crap and less running (Crap as in fast-food, soda etc.)

Thanks for anyone who helps out. I hope to be as fast as that crazy russian someday...

haha, well it helps if you have a track nearby.

A breakdown is basically a conditioning workout. An easy one would be 4x400m, 3x300m, 2x200m, 1x100m. You can do those for any distance pretty much. 400m is one lap btw.

A Windsprint is sprinting for an alloted time, and then jogging for an alloted time or distance. For instance, you can sprint at 90% for 200m, and then jog the remaining 200m, and then sprint again.

The other stuff is just learning how to sprint with good form and stuff, opening up your stride and whatnot. It would be better if you hold something, seeing as you're doing this for paintball and you cant have perfect sprinting form with a marker in your hand.

Dont overwork yourself btw, hope that helps

          Look at him!

That was less then 2 seconds he goes from the 50 to their back bunker AND shoots two of them...

I like working on the treadmill just because I can watch like 300fps which pumps me up, makes me run harder

Running long distance, like 3 miles, will build endurance..sprinting will help with sprinting

you're gonna need both. its useless if you can sprint extremely fast but then you cant move afterwards cause you're winded you need to be able to finish the game

honestly its not really sprinting that you need to do. its different sprinting and carrying a marker.

I train for running a lot but this is a little different considering u need to shoot and hold a gun. this is what I would do though. get the heaviest gun you can find(probly a mag), fill the hopper, suck tape a couple small weight plates to it, put ankle weights on, put a full harness on, maybe even put rocks in the harness.

now go out on a field and do short bursts of half the field or so. do them both while trying to aim the gun and while just running without aiming (like your tryin to get the 50 off the break). Do them untill you dont think you can do anymore, than do more, its the only way you'll improve. This would be a paintball type of resistance training(sort of like how sprinters run up hills or with parachutes on their back or pull sleds). Since you would be training with heavier stuff on, your body will be used to running like that and when you take the weights off, and run just as hard, you'll get faster.

it would also help to do some lunges holding barbells and maybe some uphill sprinting to strengthen your legs.

But I dont see how it would help as much to go our and sprint in shorts and a t shirt and then try to carry that over to paintball. Thats why I recommend for sprints you wear all your PB stuff.

yeah, that would deffinitly help. And is probably better. But it still helps to be in shape (not saying that any isn't in shape, i know AO is full of sexy guys with six-pacs)

You only need to do speedwork once a week.
run two days, a day off, run one day, last day do hills, sprints, or fartleks. This is your high gain day..take the next two days off. Repeat as necessary. Will take a couple of weeks to get your speed up...but, it works.

Thanks guys, I'm taking all this in and forming a plan I'll follow, I don't have any fields near me, I got my backyard (With a pretty steep hill) and a treadmill, I'd prefer to stay in this area just for convience (I don't want to DRIVE 4-5 miles to a soccer field to run)

                        Still looking for any advice.

One thing I did notice is that I can run pretty fast in shorts and t-shirt, but I hella slow down with pack, pants, jersey, gun, all that stuff. So I'm probably going to wear all of that while I'm training... I remember a week ago at an indoor field I had been wearing my pack carrying pods, this game I had no pods in my pack so I took it off, I made a ran for the 50 and I was a lot faster then with the harness, so if I train hard with the harness, I'll run even faster

I will tell you what you need to do when I get back from class. These responses are alright but still incorrect for the most part. I am familiar with what RL's trainer actually teaches those guys so I will tell you when I get back.

those guys train 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. And then play at weekends. Unless you can do that, you aint gonna be as fit.

A simple excercise is to do sprint training. What I mean is to go for a jog but every 30 meters, break into a fast sprint for 20 meters and then slow down to a jog again. Concentrate on getting your heart rate back to a managable level each time you slow back down.
