    PSP Vs. NDS

So, now that the PSP has launched in Japan, what are your thoughts on the two?

In my minds eye, I think that the DS is really revolutionary with including the touch screen technology, but boy oh boy, does PSP have the games. I know alot of people are also complaining about PSP's battery life, but I cant see how 4-6 hours (as reported by IGN) can be bad, really, who plays it for any longer than 4-6 hours unless going across country/world?

Both offer WiFi, at about the same range(100 feet or so), so I dont think either are better in terms of play. It would be nice to see both come out with router capabilities to allow online gaming.

Anyways, I plan to possibly pick up a PSP while I'm in Japan, and I'm getting a DS for christmas, so I think both handhelds look awesome. I'm leaning a little toward the PSP though, the trouch screen looks fun, but it looks like its more of a novelty than anything.

I leave you guys with this picture...

well just look at the screen size, and it looks like the psp has a much brighter vibrant screen, furthermore, sony just has some great games, and nintendo just dosnet have the incredible line of games like sony does, plus the psp just seems more pocket worthy, and with 4~6 hours, what more could you ask for, furthermore, why would you want a touchscreen, its nice, fun, but for gaming, pretty much not for the portable world

I must say that I have a DS, and it's freaking amazing.

The touch screen may seem like a novelty, but even with the games out so far, it's fairly revolutionary, and the possibilites are very promising.

Even if you're not into RPGs, I'm sure everyone has played a few. Menus will be so much easier to navigate with a touch screen.

The built in wireless communication (PictoChat) is very neat, and the wireless download play (allowing multiple people to play with only one copy of the game if the game supports it) makes it much easier to find pickup games where ever you go.

The battery life is quite amazing, 10ish hours, more if you're only playing a GBA game.

1.4 million units sold in the US (Sold out launch), second shipment isn't expected to move any slower.

        Fad or revolution?
If Nintendo's portable legacy has any weight at all on it at all, I'd say the latter.

PSP has a single LCD screen that can be scratched much easier due to no cover.
DS has dual LCD screens with protection (closed) with a touch pad

PSP has 4 hour battery life
          DS has 8+

PSP uses CD's DVD's and can skip or even need a new laser eye if mis treated
DS is cartridge, which for portable gaming, is much more convienent

          PSP has loading time
          DS is instant loading

          PSP has incredibly small buttons
DS has the ability to use larger buttons, a touch screen lcd, and voice comm

PSP is thriving off its graphics ability, which get old fast
DS has many many games coming out, almost all with excellent playing value for over 40+ hours each

          .... i'll take the DS.

the only thing the PSP does have on its ability is to play better graphics and DVDs and music. but who these days doesnt have a DVD player or a music player? sure the portability is nice to watch DVD's, but with 2 hours for a movie from a FULL charge... and wanting to play as well, you'll rarely see the full movie.

Graphics don't make the game better, they just make it nicer to look at. Gameplay always shines through in the end. I'm sure the PSP will give the DS a good challenge, but in a few years, it wont be selling nearly as well or sold as many.

          again... ill take the DS.

The PSP's screen is covered by a protective plastic-like cover(maybe acrylic?), and has a coating which makes it scratch resistant. The screen is NOT scratchable at all and tests have been done with brillo pads, and still the PSP's screen goes without a scratch.

PSP has 4 hour battery life
            DS has 8+
Why again do I need 8 continous hours of gameplay? Oh thats right, I dont!

Where exactly are you getting your information? Because reported by IGN, the battery is supposed to last LONGER when you are watching a DVD(PSP doesnt play DVD's, plays UMD movies )

I could go on to post stupid replies that nit pick at the DS, but I dont think Im going to. They are both great handhelds. I just think Sony's is far more universal, and the games that the developers are bringing to the PSP are amazing and far better than anything the DS really has to offer(although metroid prime: hunters is fun). Im sorry that I dont like Mario 64^7x8, but they do kinda get old after awhile, and everygame that I see on the DS seems to be some crappy platformer with bad design and a stupid concept(Wow let me rub the touch screen for 30 minutes so I can get the virtual woman off). PSP's release will kill DS's, I can practically guarentee that. DS's will sell more than the PSP probably in the long run, and thats due toall of the little kids across the nation will be begging their parents and grandparents for one for months to come.

Besides, only ***gy goth kids and girls like nintendo .

My brother is getting a DS for Christmas. I lucked out and got him the last one from EB's I haven't played it yet and it looks pretty cool. Won't the PSP be more expensive? This is just an assumption I made based on all the stuff the PSP comes with.

DS is 150$ right? PSP is around 200 retail, and the value pack w/ all the goodies is like 240

Let me begin by saying that I'm a Nintendo kid.

                    Gamespot link

I think the PSP is a sexy powerful machine. But I don't really want one.

Gamespot is reporting a 1.5-2 hour battery life while playing Ridge Racer. The point of a long battery life is convenience. But I have played a portable for more than 2 hours on a few occasions. Development kits that have battery emulators included is a bit un-nerving.

Handhelds should not have 15 second load times. When I'm riding the bus to class, I can whip out my GBA and play a quick game of Mario Kart. I don't want to have to wait for a game to load.

And who wants to remember to charge something after EVERYTIME they use it? I only charge my phone when it tells me that it's about to die, or sometimes I'll even be stuck with a dead phone. If I can't remember to charge my phone, I'm not going to remember to charge my DS. Or PSP. And my phone's charger is right on my desk.

I like how the DS has a clamshell design so that the screens are protected. But aesthetically, it's average. I wish the DS's features were more cohesive. You can't see people playing a game unless you are also playing that same game. I hope that this is a software issue, so that in the future, you can browse who is playing what.

The DS offers a microphone, voice-recognition, touch-screen, and wireless capabilities. I can't wait to see what kind of games that SEGA comes up with for the DS. The guys at SEGA know how to come up with crazy game ideas. This will really set the DS apart from the PSP.

When I go out somewhere with my portable, I'd rather play games that are different from those on my console.

And I bet Tetris would look really lame on the PSP.

I'm just afraid Sony will do with the PSP what they did with the Playstation 2...include nothing with it at all. With the PS2 you had to buy a memory card, a multi-tap for 4 player games, network adapter for online gaming, etc. I can totally see this happening again with the PSP.

I haven't seen this value pack you were talking about though, maybe that will nullify these problems.

Maybe someone can PM me why my sig was tampered
with when my image is below 20 kb and was 350x159.(20435 bytes/1024 bytes per kb = 19.96 kb.)
