well i dont have a problem with getting them that game. even when the "humans" die in the game its not all that bad and you get to waste aliens. if the alien death resembled human death, ie red blood and such, then i would feel different. it does help to refine fine motor skills and such.

If video games really did affect our children everyone who played pac-man would be sitting in a dark room poping pills in their mouths all day.

        Ever heard of a rave?

But I really do hate when people say video games or music influence how kids act. If you're stupid enough to do something a video game or song tells you to, you need to be shot. Repeatedly. In the face, Dimebag style.

Wow, that was cold. I probobly shouldn't have said the Dimebag thing. Oh well.

I say yes, but the moment they start acting different (ie fake shooting eachother, acting out parts of the game) take it away.

Here's a good tip: for every hour they spend playing Halo 2, they have to spend 1 hour reading a book. That advice is honest too, if you want smart kids, make them read a lot!

If you make them read an hour for every hour of Halo 2 then thats just a waste of $50.

Let them get it, they'll get frustrated and swear off video games forever. It will be a good thing. And for the record, i beat super mario brothers when i was 3.

You've probably managed to save a pretty penny...

Hitech. my vote is just no Xbox live. And thats only if you're concerned with language. Not a dad, but I personally wouldn't care. Some times, not having access makes em want it more, i.e. sex drugs and R&R.

13: sure why not, 8: no way, and certainly not xbox live.

What kind of father are you...why are you even thinking about getting an 8 year old halo2?

Tell the eleven year old to go for it. Most of my friends have been playing games like Unreal and Doom since they were around 8-9, and they are some of the most normal people you could meet. I've been playing those games since I was 6, my dad loaded Duke Nukem up for me to try while my mom was at a school party for work I think the only reason I wouldn't let the 8 year old play it is because he wouldn't get it or most of the story. BUT, if he is going to sit there and watch his brother play then you might as well let him play too.

YES, an 8 year old, sort of. Actually it's the 11 year old that wants it. However, if he gets it his younger brother will surely be watching if not wanting to play. So, it has to be appropriate for both of them.

Since I'm here asking about it wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that I have NOT decided what to do? Also, would it be a stretch to assume that I have never seen Halo 2? I have never seen it, and before reading this thread I knew nothing about it. I did NOT even know that it was a FPS. I did know that it was rated M, but those ratings are not always accurate.

Thanks for all the replies. I know for sure that there will be NO Live playing. I think I will take personman's advice and try playing it myself first. I'll probably rent it while they are at Dad's (I'm step-dad) and try it out. Mom can watch and help with the decision.

ONE QUESTION. I have let them both watch me play Unreal Tournament (They call it "Shoot the guys"). I had the "swear filter" on, of course. How would Halo 2 compare?

BTW, how old are you personman? I remember you looking REAL young. You sure seem mature...

Thanks again everyone. And anyone else with an opinion, please post. I appreciate them all.

Why not spend $5 and rent the game to see for yourself.

Well, I don't think that they'll have the cordination to play it (the younger one, at least), but it's a sin to own an xbox and not have Halo 2.
