So about this time yesterday, I notice that I hear a whooshing noise in my right ear (like when you listen into a seashell) and it even feels like there's some sort of abnormal pressure in there compared to my left ear (which is perfectly fine). So anyway, the wierd thing is, I can only notice it when it's relatively quiet. If i'm watching TV or something I don't notice the noise, but if it's quiet it's pretty noticeable. I had to sleep in my living room last night where the lull of our fireplace cancels it out since it was keeping me from getting to sleep. I was hoping it was one of those things that would go away by morning, but it's still here. Any idea what's causing this?
Ahh! What's wrong with my ear?

Clean out your ear. Maybe the wax in your ear is shaped just right so you start to hear the sound. Other than that, I have no clue.Hey, look at that! It's Santa!

I'm afraid you have Wooshingintheearitis. Cut off your ear and sew it back on, should be as good as new.Comment

Just make sure you don't forget the sewing it back on part. Van Gogh did, and look how HE turned out.Originally posted by LittlePaintballBoyI'm afraid you have Wooshingintheearitis. Cut off your ear and sew it back on, should be as good as new.

I have a couple questions:
1. Does it make the whooshing sound because of you breathing, or does it still do it when you hold your breath?
2. When you talk, does it sound like you can hear your voice, but deeper and more harsh, from that ear? I know this question is sketchy, but does it make your voice sound different?
Because if you answered yes to those 2 questions, then you are like me. my left ear is whacked out ever since I went scuba diving in mexico. went to a docter, they did nothing. i can make it go away for awhile if i move my jaw, but it always comes back.War is peace

Does it hurt at all? It could be an ear infection. Those are not fun and definetaly require a doctor visit.

Could be an infection, could also be the onset of Tinnitus
ATA is a global leader in the effort to find a cure for tinnitus. Find a medical provider, donate to advanced research, become an ATA member.
Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) is common. So is decreased sound tolerance (hyperacusis and misophonia). Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) can give relief.
There are plenty more links about but those should give you some idea...though the best advise so far is go and see a Doctor.Comment
Qtips are your friend. Clean the ear out and see if that helps. Using your finger isnt good enough.Originally posted by afultz075Nope, none of that. I just talked to my mom about it over her lunch break, and she said it's probably some sort of blockage with water trapped behind it possibly that's causing it.Hey, look at that! It's Santa!

No, dont use qtips.
A few years ago on a family trip to florida I had like a similar problem, i had like water in my ear. It was really annoying so I tried to clean it out with a q tip. Then it got really painful. We had to find a doctor and get an appointment, and when i saw him he said that I had scratched my ear drum or something like that.
Seriously, your ear isnt something to play around with, atleast CALL a doctor
