How about an outdoor survival knife. Do they make any knives like the one used by the Russian woman in MGS2? There's a bullet that flys out of the handle. Or would a bayonet be more useful.

If you're going to use a bayonet, make sure there is a rifel attached. It really adds to the bayonets...impact.Originally posted by nippinoutHow about an outdoor survival knife. actually, victorinox and wenger, the other manufacturer of licenced swiss army knives split the order. wenger got the contract for the french half of switzerland, and victorinox got the german sided contract.

Spyderco plain edge delica. Best pocket knife ever. Never wear out, needs no maintenance, awesome VG-10 steel, easy out, light as a feather, thin profile carries well, but has a shape that still allows serious cutting, under $60.Comment

I have had CRKT, buck, gerber, and Spyderco knifes in the past.
My brother bought the red/black Kershaw ken onion blur and I am dying to get my hands on one. Assisted opening is quick and the knife is beautiful.

Well...
Hm. How to put this.
No. :)
A mock up show sword will run you probably under 50$.
A truely combat ready and useful sword, well, that's a whole 'nother story.
I'd reccomend going here http://forums.swordforum.com/ and learn as much as you can, I'm sure the guys there will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
Second, I would set aside a whole lot of money.
As for what's best... It's really personal aesthetics. I'm a fan of both Scottish claymores and Katanas. Some hate the look of either one, and wouldn't want it in their home.
This site here as the best quality swords you will get for around $200. http://www.swordsdirect.com/practical_katanas.html
Hanwei is the maker you want to look for, excellent quality and very affordable.
For best of the best, peek around http://www.bradshawcutlery.com/ This mastersmith will make you a 10,000$ sword, and sell it for $1500. He is amazing in the depth, breadth, and quality of his work.
More links, all very good places to buy from:

A great descendent of Inigo Montoya's father perhaps?

Tom Brown Tracker.Originally posted by evil1Does anyone know what kind of knife Benicio Del Toro had in "The Hunted"? I thought that knife was extremely cool looking. Another durable knife is any fixed blade from cold steel. I have had many of them over the years and have beat the crap out of them and used them for anything in the book they were not intended for and they still would sharpen up nice and take more of a beating.

Well thanks for the thread. Guess I can post my question in here instead of my thread.
What's a boot knife?
Also if I wanted a knife that would cut boxes, burlap bags, some carpet, rope (including climbing ropes), and possibly defending myslelf (I work in DC) - what would you recommend? Needs to be water proof too.
Edit: One other question. Throwing knives. Is this real or just movie BS. Not that I would, but it owuld be kind of an interesting skill to have.Last edited by slateman; 01-04-2005, 11:27 PM.BrockSampson "I see dead people..."

slateman - A good brand for defensive and useful work knife would be a Cold Steel folding knife. There are many look into some.
Boot knives are, just like it's named, a knife that fits almost in the boot, it straps around the lower part of your leg, above the ankle sorta. They aren't large, they're bout 4" blade or so on average.
Throwing knives is doable, there are some knives made just for throwing. If you are truly interested, you can go buy a book at a martial arts store or something. It's a lot harder than it sounds.
I do know the AO sig rules, I just want a free sig pic, that's all!
