    as I understand it, most volcanos act like... an automatic lawn sprinkler. the pressure builds up, the lava finds a crack, and spurts out.

    these mega-volcanos act like.. a zit. the lava builds up and builds up in a big pool underground, and pops all at once. the last time this volcano exploded it created THE VALLEY YELLOWSTONE SITS IN.

    the pressure has built to the point that the ground has tiled enough under this one lake to move the lake something like 10 feet. that's actually how the scientist found out about it. he went back after many years and found out the lake wasn't where he remembered it to be...

        That is extraordinary.. and I am once again happy that I live in Ontario, one of the most stable regions in the world..

                      tsunamis have always been an issue in CA, but over played becaue of the Indain ocean event. The Fault here (san andres) is a bigger thing to worry about here, I for one am not worried about a tsunami. Got to love the Ring of Fire.

                          An similar disaster waiting to happen is the Mega-Volcano which is under YellowStone Nat'l Forest, and is supposed to be due (in geographic time anyway) for an eruption so big it'll wipe out the CENTRAL part of the country. the map on TV showed basicaly nothing but east coast and some of California left
