Careful who you get your information from, or else apple might sue you as well.Originally posted by JrnyFan1985neither, the G6 is coming out in one year 4GHZ system w/ cell processor chips. or you can wait for the G5 powerbook, it should be comin out in a couple of months.
Anyway, with the updated powerbooks having just come out, the G5's are probably on their way in the next revision(or at least that's what I'm praying for!), which would come out really late this year or next spring I would imagine. I would hope that apple would not go a full year without updating their top line of laptops, but they've done it before; I think with the AlBooks. Anyways, you should definitely go for the powerbook. Don't even think twice. Splurge on it. Mine has been a pleasure to use, and I don't think I could ever go back to an iBook.

g5 Powebooks next Tuesday!!!!!!!!
Not really - It's an inside joke at MacRumors.
You will NOT see the G5 PB anytime soon. Even at WWDC in June....
Apple could release one though...
It would be three inches thick, last 20 minutes on a full battery, and be like putting a hot iron on your lap. That's not Apple though...
Don't worry however, the G5 will come out. For now, the G4 is perfect for the majority of tasks most people have. Save video and graphic professionals.
JrnyFan, don't count on a G6 in a year. The G5 still has plenty of life, and the entire lineup STILL has not been updated to the G5.
Now, what do you need to use if for? If it's iLife, word processing in Pages, an iBook is fine. If you need dual screen(NOT mirrored), then the iBook is out. Also,a student discount is available from the Apple Store. In fact, they were recently updated(Powebook). I might pick one up later this year hopefully in time for my trip out west this summer(Yosemite or Yellowstone).
Now, it is expected that dual core G4's will be available sometime this year. If that is the case, then you'd be better off with a single dual core processor (G4) over a G5. Sadly, the marketing morons would have a hard time convincing people that because people are so foolish as to think that a "number" means it is better. Oh, it's a G5. That's better than a DC G4.....

wow thats cool to hear Kev. Do you work for a school by chance?
I would definitely go the PowerBook route, and make sure to have enough money for AppleCare Protection Plan. I bought an iBook and didn't get app...it stinks not having coverage.
The new powerbooks are nice, the 15's and 17's can now run the 30inch display, which rocks. They have a HD park feature if the PowerBook vibrates too much or if it is dropped...so it has a higher chance of saving the HD for retaining critical data. It has 2 finger scrolling on the trackpad, that makes life easier.
I would definitely get the 15inch PowerBook, with the video card upgrade. Good luck, shoot me any questions if you would like.Rachel aka. YudanjaComment
