It was your fault and you more than showed kids your age shouldnt be able to drive. That is all and have a nice day.Comment

Careful, because there are studies (discussed on this board in another thread) of frontal brain development related to impulse control that would give a hint of credibility to an argument that noone under 25 should drive. I don't beleive that, but there is an argument at that could be made.
He made a mistake.. he'll learn, noone was killed, it cost money. Someone could have been - sure, someone coudl be killed when I drive to - its possible, we all make mistakes. Mistakes, and how we handle them, build character. I hope.
You guys are being pretty rough on him, let him learn, let him move on. YOur right, its important that he admits his fault at it... but he will, eventually."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr SuessComment

Yes, but there wasn't any sign he has learned or wants to learn.Originally posted by Lohman446You guys are being pretty rough on him, let him learn, let him move on. YOur right, its important that he admits his fault at it... but he will, eventually.
He wished not that it didn't ahppen, or that he wasn't stupid enough to do it. He wished it happened before he had spent his money.
This was no "accident" that happened due to random celestial forces. This was a completely avoidable dumbheaded action. And you know what? To be fair, I've done my share of those. I totalled a '76 Mini by hitting a guard rail sideways at about 110kph and ran into the back of a transport truck with my honda civic.

Unfortunately I have to aggree with him on this one. I even Googled "Jewish Pole" to make sure it wasn't a design or something like that, but all I got were sites about Nazi Germany.Originally posted by SlartyBartFastThen, there's the issue of the racist comment that has been neither explained, excused, or retracted.
The way it is used honestly makes "Jewish" sound like an adjective for stupid.

again, he cannot change the law. YOU don't think kids this young should be able to drive. YOU don't make our state's laws. YOU don't live here. YOU shouldn't worry about it.
That is all, and have a nice day

Yea, it's not fun being made fun of for being a Jew. It makes you feel horrible.Originally posted by DuzzyLike the sentence, "Mom I hit a stupid pole!" was phrased as, Mom I hit a Jewish pole!".
Alot of you were very tough on him. His accident was completely aviodable, that is clear. But being the age of 14 limits his thought process and logic. Accidents happen. It is only money that is lost and new information gained.Hey, look at that! It's Santa!

yeah, stop flameing him. it really does feel bad to be flamed for a driving thing.
i mentioned on here about my driving tests; and i got flamed. i took it 4 times before i passed. passed on the 4th one. the first two tests werent my fault for failing. 1st one: driving instructor said he was looking at the light for the people going the other way at a 4 way intersection. the sun was at a level in the sky, that it shined in and made the light look yellow. when it was really red. so he concluded that i ran a red turning left. makes no sense; it was a very busy highway. how exactly would i drive through the cars going the other way?!?! not possible. 2nd time: didn't floor it at a green light. seriously. the driving instructor thought it was dangerous for the person behind me because they expected me to floor it. thats pretty messed up.
but seriously, if your 14, own a new car, getting the windows tinted, and getting a spoiler. why would it be such a big deal to get a 700 dollar fix. to me it sounds like you are rich.upgrade fund: $145

Yeah, I've seen similiar. However, that obviously isn't viable because in most places where people 16-25 do drive, there's not much in the way of mass transit, so work would become a problem.Originally posted by Lohman446Careful, because there are studies (discussed on this board in another thread) of frontal brain development related to impulse control that would give a hint of credibility to an argument that noone under 25 should drive. I agree that it isn't a viable option, and you will find in the same thread I questioned the benefits of raising from 18 to 25. However, to see someone who is 19 or 20 whine about how badly a 16 year old, or in this case a 14 year old drives... well sometimes points need to be made. Experience is the reason that a 19 year old driver is a better driver, it has very little to do with age alone.Originally posted by teufelhundenYeah, I've seen similiar. From 14 to 19 the risk/impulse center of the frontal lobe does continue to develop. It's not as if at 25 it goes from 0%->100%. So, no, it's not based solely on experience.
It might also have something to do with being able to see over the wheel

Thats good
I was going to respond to the first part... but I just can't
Your right of course, maybe on both points - but I would assume you would agree that experience plays a more major role than frontal lobe development - I do some stupid stuff in a car now and I haven't crashed in awhile (yeh.. that comments gonna bite me later). Its not because of impulse control (does it count as impulse if I know its stupid, consider it, and do it anyways?) but because of simple experience.
Though I will admit, all the experience in the world, good impulse control won't help a bit if you can't see over the wheel

A few things the jewish pole statement...bad choice of words but I will leave it at that.
Farming communitys/states...ok I understand the reasoning for a yound age of being able to drive because of this...doesn't make it right in my eyes but obviously legal for where you are.
A follow on to 14 yr olds or slightly higher...a crazy idea as who pays for the insurance and accidents, the parents since what money can the children (that's what they are) earn to pay for the insurance and accidents.
The legal age for driving in my country is 17 (16 in the armed forces but then only if required to drive due to a military need)
I myself didn't learn to drive until I was much older since I didn't need a car. But when I did pass my test I had two accidents within the first year...insurance went through the roof. I have since then had a couple of serious accidents neither my fault but I got prosecuted for one of them all the same...fine and points not jail. But since then I have been accident free...over 15yrs. Fortunately my insurance levels are low due to my age but still they are higher than they should be due to the accident level of younger drivers, which loads my policy since the companies are still paying out for the young drivers accidents (doesn't matter that they pay more than me the company looks at money out and applys the load to everyone, but then all insurance companies work this way
) The only thing that annoys me currently about insurance is that my current vehicle is a 1/3 smaller engine size than my previous vehicle and the insurance when I got it was higher than the older insurance! The vehicle can't travel as fast and yet it costs me more
I have never been given a ticket for speeding, but even if I was caught going over the limit I would not have any excuse since the limit is the limit.Comment

perhaps mandatory drivers ed with plenty of time behind the steering wheel with an instructor is in order....Originally posted by Lohman446Experience is the reason that a 19 year old driver is a better driver, it has very little to do with age alone.
I spent a summer in driver ed, I definately feel it made me a better driver."Great stories! See everyone, just buy a Sydarm and become a paintball superstar!! "
