Its putting down Rock and Roll. Most people are dumb and watch whatever is on MTV and MTV plays Hip/Hop because Hip/Hop still manages to sell albums at record stores, unlike Rock albums where people just download mp3's all day. For this reason hip/hop will always be played on more radios stations and on more tv shows then Rock and Roll.
haha. you're serious? you're going to say that more people download rock mp3's then hiphop/rap mp3's? even if that information is correct how are you going to say hiphop putting down rock? is it hiphops fault that rock fans download mp3's. no.

Sometimes its funny and entertaining when you rhyme about 40z big screen tvs. it really is. Other time its not. Its howe clever you can make the rhymes about 40's and big screen tvs. Granted the topic might be the same thing but the execution is diff.

They use 20 year old songs as samples and the kids think it's new and "fresh".

                  No real "musical" talant.
Well essentially it is fresh, most hip hop today can be seperated into 2 units. The sound production, beats and the musical background essentially and lyrics/flow.

The most talented producers are really the moneymakers. And as for samples, yes hip hop still incorperates that but, it has evolved. in fact some of the top hiphop acts develop their own music/style/sound. If you know hip hop, samples and scratch are only one tangent or element in cadre of musical intruments.

People can rap, its easy. just rhyme stuff. Now incorperate subject matter, deliver it in a clever way, get people to rap along with you, develop a cathy cadence to go with it and not have people clown you is a whole different story.

Like any form of entertainment really, there is a formula.

Consider too this music came from the urban culture and from different socio-economic background

I can sit down right now with my computer and lay down tracks will would compare to any of the popular hip-hop artists. Trust me it's not all that hard. And rhyming is not all that hard either. Comparing it to Blues, Jazz, Classical, and some rock, there is no talent there. Even Motown artist were unique and talented, where as modern day R&B Hip-Hop sounds the same.

Now, that being said, I will say the same for most modern day (and even some classic) rock.

Im not saying its hard or easy. And by all means do dat stuff. Make beats, ryhme. Make art in general. But, the fact is can you sell 1mill copies and get the world to like you stuff?

                      Do it consistently?

Like i said, there is a formula.

But that is a general art discussion.

I like the rappers from my area. Most of them rap about the area and its cool to hear their perspesctive on the bay area. Yeah, im male middle class and white in the bay area, im not trying to act thug or g or whatever listening to it. I just like hearing what its like from a differnt point of view. I like the beats too, and how people can work them. I from time to time write poems and stuff and read at open mics. Real rap/hip-hop is pretty much just poetry with a beat if done right. I dont think anyone who exspresses themselves lyrically should be put down, there are just some better than others. Some people think its all about ryhme and not abot reason and rythm. A 4 year old can ryhme every other word, a poet can make it flow, and a rapper can make it fit a beat.

my main dislike about hip hop is that all the fans are followers. when a rapper does something (ie: style of clothes, car, new speech, etc. ) everyone else does the exact same thing, and follows completely. no one is original anymore. this country is full of followers.
