In my mind "punk" the lifestyle and music is dead/dying. There are a lot of bands classified as "punk" that shouldnt be,there are people that often dont even listen to what they are saying and just say "hey he's playing a guitar and wearing a leather spiked jacket with a green mo-hawk sweet it must be punk." Punk is not a band who cant find anything else to write about besides their girlfriends, Punk is not a band who totally changes its sound because their record label told them too, Punk is does not use FREAKIN pianos and violins in their flipping songs.
All and all the word "punk" has been disgraced, spitted, and pissed on. I havent seen or heard a damn band that has ever showed its face on tv in the past 7 years.
The new category for all those scumfuc's on mtv should be labeled...

Ok, I am going to list bands that fall into the "Punk'ish" catagory.
Deceiving Ralph
Dead Milkmen
Dead Kennedys
Misfits
Black Flag
Ramones
The Damned
Sex Pistols
Buzzcocks
For a long time i thought punk was dead, what I found is that it's not so much dead as reinvented. I am not talking about the pop rock side of it, but the true punk lifestyle. It's still there, just not as popular. Deveiving Ralph is a perfect example. They draw their influences from a bunch of different styles, but still some how come out on the punk side.
Take a listen to one of their songs.

HOW POPULAR A BAND IS DOES NOT DETERMINE HOW GOOD THEY ARE.
And likewise, just because you listen to some local garage band that no one's ever heard of does NOT make them the best band out there.
I listen to BOTH stuff no one has heard of AND mainstream pop "crap". I enjoy both. I have both on the same playlist.
yes yes
goldfinger is one of thouse bands
john the lead singer produces bands that get it good like tacking back sunday mest and hes the one that found the used.
also because of john carson daliy was on mtv for trl and has his own show now.
dont belive me watch this movie!
also his band is not on mtv and not alot of people really know about them
no one at all at my school but me and one other kid likes them and also KNOWS who they are
operation ivy is an other band like that. in the 80's they had no $$ to tour and didnt go really far other then east bay area's. now most of them are in other bands like rancid and Common Rider and also green day was also a ban around the operation ivy days and look at them now.

It's short for emotional hardcore. During the 80's, hardcore was about pride and attitude. Emo was a more introspective genre that evolved from hardcore due to disillusioned artists in the scene. It focused on one's inner emotions rather than community and pride. In general it was more depressing, but it is not the TBS/Saves the Day/Atreyu type music that people often listen to today.Originally posted by B.A.M.i think i know what it is. short for emotional i think and its all about how there lives are bad and they want to die.Converge KillsComment

This kid is basically asking us for non-mainstream bands, yet he is listening to mainstream stuff. Listening to underground music isn't just something you just do, it is kind of you find one less mainstream band and it just keeps leading to better stuff.
Example: I started listening to Taking back sunday right around when there first albumn came out, which led me to other "emo" bands, which led me to ska bands, which led to hardcore bands that very few people have probably heard of. I am sick of people that just want to listen to underground bands for the sake of being underground and all that BS. Listen to what sounds good and stop worrying about whether it is underground or mainstream. If it sounds good, listen to it.Comment
